Madhav Tiger Reserve Enhances Wildlife Conservation, Tourism, and Eco-Balance in MP

Madhav Becomes MP’s 9th Tiger Reserve

Madhya Pradesh has taken another giant leap in wildlife conservation with the declaration of Madhav National Park in Shivpuri as the state’s 9th Tiger Reserve. This move strengthens MP’s reputation as India’s leading tiger conservation state.

While announcing India’s 58th Tiger Reserve, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated:

“India is home to incredible biodiversity, and our cultural heritage respects wildlife. We remain committed to their protection and conservation.”

This initiative is in line with the central government’s mission to safeguard endangered species and enhance eco-friendly tourism.


A New Era of Wildlife Protection in MP

At the launch of Madhav Tiger Reserve, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav released a tigress into the wild, symbolizing the beginning of this conservation journey. The state’s 9 tiger reserves will play a crucial role in wildlife preservation, sustainable tourism, and ecological balance.

Madhya Pradesh: The State with the Most Tiger Reserves

With the addition of Madhav Tiger Reserve, MP now has 9 tiger reserves, surpassing other Indian states:

1️⃣ Kanha Tiger Reserve (1973)
2️⃣ Pench Tiger Reserve (1992)
3️⃣ Panna Tiger Reserve (1993-94)
4️⃣ Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (1993-94)
5️⃣ Satpura Tiger Reserve (1999-2000)
6️⃣ Sanjay-Dubri Tiger Reserve (2011)
7️⃣ Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve (2023)
8️⃣ Ratapani Tiger Reserve (2024)
9️⃣ Madhav Tiger Reserve (2025)

Additionally, MP has 11 National Parks and 24 Wildlife Sanctuaries, including the Mukundpur White Tiger Safari.


Tourism & Employment Boost in MP

With Madhav and Ratapani Tiger Reserves, MP’s eco-tourism industry is set to expand, generating new job opportunities.

These reserves will offer safari tours, nature trails, and eco-lodges, attracting domestic and international travelers.


Steps to Reduce Human-Wildlife Conflict

Madhya Pradesh is tackling human-wildlife conflict with:

Wildlife corridors to ensure safe movement
14 regional & 1 state-level rescue squads
Compensation for wildlife-related damages increased from ₹8 lakh to ₹25 lakh


Madhav Tiger Reserve: A Biodiversity Haven

🌿 Established: 1958 (as a national park), declared a tiger reserve in 2025
📏 Area: 375,233 sq. km
🌊 Key Water Bodies: Sakhya Sagar & Madhav Sagar Lakes
🏞️ Wildlife: Tigers, leopards, wolves, swamp crocodiles, chinkara deer, python, migratory birds

Notably, Sakhya Sagar Lake was designated as a Ramsar site in 2022, highlighting its ecological importance.
