Inauguration of Madhav Tiger Reserve in Shivpuri, Opening New Doors for Chambal Region
A Historic Gift on the 80th Birth Anniversary of Late Madhavrao Scindia
Bhopal | Monday, March 10, 2025 | Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav inaugurated the Madhav Tiger Reserve in Shivpuri, marking Madhya Pradesh’s 9th and India’s 58th national tiger reserve. On this occasion, CM Yadav released a tigress into the newly designated open habitat of the reserve, emphasizing the historic significance of the day for the Chambal region. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for wildlife conservation in India and thanked the central government for its support in making Madhav Tiger Reserve a reality. The event also witnessed the unveiling of the reserve’s logo and the inauguration of its boundary wall.

Chambal: A Unique Coexistence of Wildlife & Humans
CM Yadav highlighted that the state government is taking extensive measures to boost wildlife tourism in Chambal. The region is already home to Cheetahs in Kuno, Gharials in the Chambal River, and now Tigers in Madhav National Park, making it a key tourist attraction. He emphasized the harmonious coexistence of wildlife and humans, which makes Chambal a one-of-a-kind destination in India. With government initiatives, tourism will flourish, employment opportunities will rise, and the Gwalior-Chambal region will witness significant economic growth.
Chambal to Roar with the Mighty Tiger
Madhya Pradesh, known as India’s Tiger State, boasts the highest tiger population in the country. With the establishment of Madhav Tiger Reserve, the state has filled a crucial gap in its tiger conservation efforts. On the birth anniversary of late Madhavrao Scindia, this reserve marks a new milestone in regional development. CM Yadav stated that the area, already home to species like bears, leopards, deer, chinkaras, wolves, jackals, porcupines, pythons, and vultures, will now gain global recognition for tiger rehabilitation and conservation.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to wildlife conservation, ensuring that the development of this tiger reserve would maintain a delicate balance with the ecosystem. Unlike zoological parks, this reserve offers an open habitat for wildlife while remaining accessible to the general public.
Chambal’s Wildlife Tourism Gets a Major Boost: Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia
Union Minister for Communications & Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia expressed gratitude to CM Yadav for bringing this historic gift to the Gwalior-Chambal region. He highlighted that Madhav Tiger Reserve is the third revived national park in Madhya Pradesh, following Panna Tiger Reserve.
Scindia noted that under PM Modi’s leadership, cheetahs were reintroduced in Kuno National Park, and on March 10, 2023, three tigers were released in Madhav National Park. With the addition of a tigress, the combined area of Kuno and Madhav Tiger Reserves now exceeds 3,000 sq. km. He assured that both the state and central governments would continue their collaborative efforts to further develop Madhav Tiger Reserve and promote wildlife tourism.
The event saw the presence of Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar, Energy Minister Pradyumn Singh Tomar, Minister of State for Forests Dilip Singh Ahirwar, and various public representatives.
