Bhopal, Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav paid floral tribute to the statue of revolutionary and freedom fighter Amar Shaheed Hemu Kalani on Tuesday at Sindhi Colony, Ujjain. Addressing the gathering on the occasion of Hemu Kalani’s martyrdom day, Dr. Yadav said that Hemu Kalani sacrificed his life for India’s independence at the tender age of 19.
The Chief Minister highlighted the immense contribution of Hemu Kalani and other revolutionaries, stating that their relentless efforts ended nearly a thousand years of foreign oppression. He emphasized that in every era, brave sons of India have risen to protect the nation’s culture and heritage, proving the saying, “Janani Janmabhoomischa Swargadapi Gariyasi” (Mother and Motherland are superior to heaven). Dr. Yadav also noted that these sacrifices thwarted the exploitation of India’s resources by foreign rulers, particularly the British colonialists.

Dr. Yadav elaborated on the rich legacy of India’s freedom struggle, mentioning luminaries such as Maharana Pratap, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Gond Empire, Bajirao Peshwa, and the Scindia and Holkar dynasties, who continuously fought against foreign invaders. He condemned the damage caused to temples and Indian culture by invaders but lauded the resilience with which these institutions and traditions were restored.
Complete Liquor Ban in Religious Cities
Dr. Yadav announced a significant decision to implement a complete liquor ban in Ujjain and other religious cities of the state, ensuring that the sentiments of devotees are respected. The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting religious, natural, and cultural tourism, which will generate employment opportunities and pave the way for holistic development in the state.
Amar Shaheed Hemu Kalani: The Brave Son of India
Hemu Kalani, a revolutionary from Sukkur (Sindh), dedicated his life to India’s freedom struggle. Even as a teenager, he inspired people to boycott foreign goods and embrace Swadeshi products. A key participant in the Quit India Movement of 1942, Kalani courageously opposed British rule. In one of his daring acts, he attempted to derail a British train carrying weapons but was arrested. For this act of bravery, he was sentenced to death, becoming a martyr for the nation’s freedom.
The event was attended by MLA Anil Jain Kalooheda, Mayor Mukesh Tatwal, Council Chairperson Kalavati Yadav, along with several public representatives and citizens.
Dr. Yadav concluded by urging citizens to remember and honor the sacrifices of freedom fighters like Hemu Kalani, who paved the way for an independent and culturally rich India.
