Bhopal: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announced that the upcoming Global Investors Summit (GIS) in Bhopal would place urban development at the heart of its agenda. With significant strides in infrastructure and sustainability, Madhya Pradesh is emerging as a leader in urban innovation. The state is driving progress through cutting-edge policies, housing initiatives, and smart city projects, supported by ongoing investments of ₹72,000 crore and additional plans worth ₹88,000 crore.
Dr. Yadav highlighted that these efforts are part of the broader vision to transform Madhya Pradesh into a future-ready state while contributing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of a Developed India by 2047. The Chief Minister further assured that these projects would not only modernize urban living but also generate substantial employment opportunities.
Transforming Urban Spaces
Madhya Pradesh has established itself as a front-runner in initiatives such as the Swachh Bharat Mission and Smart City Mission, with its cities being recognized nationally for innovation and sustainability. The state has focused on tackling modern challenges through affordable housing, greenfield city development, and advanced urban planning.
“Through state-of-the-art infrastructure and forward-thinking policies, Madhya Pradesh is creating cities that are globally competitive, sustainable, and attractive for investors,” Dr. Yadav remarked.
Pioneering Smart City Projects
The state boasts an impressive portfolio of seven smart cities, complemented by a robust urban population of over four million. Madhya Pradesh has successfully completed 8.32 lakh affordable homes and is currently working on constructing another 10 lakh homes worth ₹50,000 crore. The government has also set ambitious targets, including:
- Achieving 100% piped water supply in urban areas by 2027 (currently at 80%).
- Expanding urban connectivity with 6,000 km of newly constructed roads.
- Reaching full sewerage coverage across cities by 2030.
Madhya Pradesh’s cities have consistently earned national accolades, with Indore maintaining its title as India’s cleanest city for the seventh consecutive year and Bhopal recognized as the cleanest capital. The state’s urban projects have been a testament to its focus on enhancing quality of life and sustainability.
Opportunities for Investors
The state government has laid out extensive opportunities for investors in urban development:
- ₹50,000 crore under the Housing for All initiative.
- ₹17,230 crore for essential urban facilities.
- ₹32,400 crore for real estate and mixed-use developments.
Dr. Yadav stated, “Madhya Pradesh is creating an environment where global investors can actively participate in reshaping its urban future, benefiting both the economy and residents.”
Innovative Policies Driving Growth
To ensure sustainable urban expansion, the state has introduced several forward-thinking policies:
- The MP Re-Densification Policy 2022 and Redevelopment Policy 2022 aim to modernize infrastructure and optimize urban land use.
- TDR Rules 2018 ensure balanced and efficient urban growth.
- The EV Policy 2025 provides incentives for electric mobility, fostering green transportation solutions.
- The Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Policy 2019 encourages urban growth around major transport hubs.
Future-Ready Infrastructure
Madhya Pradesh is setting a benchmark in connectivity and infrastructure with:
- A 5 lakh km road network and 46 national highways.
- 20 key railway junctions for seamless transit.
- Six operational airports, with more planned for expansion.
Additionally, the development of multimodal logistics parks in Indore and Jabalpur is set to position Madhya Pradesh as a hub for trade and commerce. Advanced technologies such as AI-based governance and digital tools are being integrated to further enhance municipal operations.
