Raipur, December 9, 2024: For farmers like Gulab Singh, cultivating crops is not just a livelihood but a constant struggle against nature and limited resources. Living in the remote village of Thadpakhna in Korba block, the 70-year-old farmer vividly describes the challenges faced by those dependent on agriculture. “We toil endlessly under the sun, sweating and working hard to grow crops. Our happiness knows no bounds when the government supports us by offering fair prices for our produce,” he says.

The Life of a Farmer: Hope Hinges on Rain and Government Policies

With no irrigation facilities in the hilly terrain of his village, Gulab Singh relies entirely on rainfall for his crops. Fortunately, this year’s rains have been favorable, and his six to seven acres of paddy fields have yielded a promising harvest. Reflecting on the role of government policies, he adds, “Both the skies and the government are our gods. When the rains are kind and the government offers us fair prices, our efforts feel rewarded.”

Support That Transforms Lives

Under the Krishak Unnati Yojana, the Chhattisgarh government has ensured that farmers like Gulab Singh receive maximum benefits. Last year, he earned ₹3,100 per quintal for his paddy, along with a bonus for the previous two years. This financial aid not only helps farmers repay debts but also fulfills dreams of buying essentials for their families.

“The system for selling paddy has significantly improved compared to earlier times. Previously, selling paddy was a cumbersome process, but now it is seamless,” Gulab Singh shared. He also praised the government for directly crediting funds to farmers’ accounts, which saves time and effort.

Key Highlights of Krishak Unnati Yojana

  • Fair Pricing: Farmers receive ₹3,100 per quintal for paddy—the highest in the country.
  • Timely Payments: Additional support funds and bonuses are credited directly to bank accounts.
  • Improved Systems: Streamlined processes for selling crops at procurement centers.
  • Economic Empowerment: Financial assistance helps farmers clear debts and improve their standard of living.

Farmers’ Trust in Leadership

Gulab Singh attributes these positive changes to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, a leader with a farming background. “The Chief Minister understands the struggles of farmers, and his efforts under Krishak Unnati Yojana have brought us relief,” he said.

Gulab Singh is confident that his hard work will yield financial rewards again this year. “The registration for selling my paddy is complete, and soon, I will sell my crop at the procurement center,” he said with optimism.

Conclusion: A Path Toward Prosperity

The Krishak Unnati Yojana has been a game-changer for farmers in Chhattisgarh, providing financial stability and addressing long-standing challenges in agriculture. As Gulab Singh and other farmers prepare to sell their harvest, the scheme continues to foster hope, happiness, and economic growth among the farming community.

Through initiatives like these, the Chhattisgarh government reaffirms its commitment to empowering farmers, ensuring that every grain they produce translates into a step toward a brighter future.
