Dehradun, July 13, 2026: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday inspected the construction work of the Science City project at UCOST and also participated in a Science, Technology and Innovation Policy dialogue programme. He said the Dehradun Science City is progressing rapidly and will emerge as a leading centre for science, innovation and research for students, researchers and scientists from Uttarakhand as well as across the country.
During the event, Dhami launched Vigyan Setu initiatives, including community science radio Vigyan Vani on 88.8 MHz, Vigyan Drishyam and Vigyan Dhara. He said these efforts will help bring the complex knowledge of laboratories to the last person in the queue and make science more accessible to the public.
The chief minister said Harela week is being observed in the state and described Harela as more than a festival. He called it a symbol of faith in nature, commitment to environmental protection and responsibility toward future generations. He said that at a time when the world faces climate change, global warming and environmental crises, Harela sends a strong message that development and nature can go together.
Dhami said the world is going through an unprecedented technological transformation, with robots working in factories and hospitals, artificial intelligence expanding human capability, and data science, drones, semiconductors and biotechnology shaping the future. He said Uttarakhand must not only accept this change but lead it.
He also said several states in India now look at Uttarakhand as a best practice model in various areas. He referred to the Silkyara tunnel rescue operation as one such example, which was presented as a best practice at the BRICS conference. He added that the state has now decided to observe November 28 every year as Disaster Management Day.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, Dhami said science, technology and research form the strongest foundation of that national resolve. He said the addition of Jai Anusandhan to the slogan Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan gives scientists and youth a new mission.
The chief minister said the state government is committed to making Uttarakhand a global hub of science, technology and modern research. He noted that the state’s first Science, Technology and Innovation Policy has already been implemented.
He added that the government is expanding science and innovation centres, labs on wheels, digital libraries, patent information centres, STEM labs and GIS based modern systems. It is also promoting future technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, drones, semiconductors and pre incubation labs. On the occasion, he announced land for developing a startup centre on the UCOST campus and also planted a sapling.
Cabinet Minister Pradeep Batra, Sahaspur MLA Sahdev Singh Pundir, Secretary Nitesh Jha, UCOST Director General Prof. Durgesh Pant, media advisory committee chair Prof. Govind Singh, vice chancellors, department heads, scientists and other dignitaries were present.
