Raipur, November 30, 2024 “Electricity bills are now a thing of the past,” says beneficiary of PM SooryaGhar Scheme

The Prime Minister’s SooryaGhar Scheme is revolutionizing the energy landscape in Chhattisgarh by illuminating 25,000 homes through solar power. Offering affordable, sustainable, and eco-friendly energy, the scheme is helping households save on electricity bills while fostering environmental sustainability.

Empowering Households: Real Stories of Change

Beneficiaries of the PM SooryaGhar Scheme have shared remarkable experiences:

  • Massive Savings on Electricity:
Anurag Sharma from Bilaspur installed a 7 kW rooftop solar panel under the scheme. Previously, he paid ₹2,000–₹5,000 monthly for electricity. Now, his bills are zero, and he generates surplus electricity, earning additional income. He received a government subsidy of ₹78,000 to facilitate this transformation.
  • Convenience and Efficiency:
Hemant Sahu from Dhamtari District reported a seamless process, with installation completed in just a month. “Earlier, I paid ₹1,000 every month, but now I pay nothing,” he said. Another resident, Geeta Sahu, happily charges her electric scooter daily without any worries about electricity costs.

Key Features of the SooryaGhar Scheme

The scheme is designed to promote the use of renewable energy, offering various benefits to both urban and rural households:

  • Free Electricity: Up to 300 units of electricity per month are provided free of cost.
  • Net Metering: Excess electricity produced by the solar panels is supplied back to the grid, generating additional income for the user.
  • Generous Subsidies: The government offers subsidies ranging from ₹30,000 to ₹78,000 to make installations affordable.
  • Environmental Impact: Encourages sustainable energy use, reducing carbon emissions.
  • Employment Opportunities: Solar panel installation and maintenance create jobs at the local level.
