Over 500 Teachers Appointed in Korba District; Special Focus on Marginalized Tribes

Raipur, December 11, 2024: Until recently, students in Korba district were grappling with a lack of teachers in their schools. Complaints from parents about vacant teaching positions or the absence of subject-specific teachers were commonplace. At times, teaching activities would come to a complete halt due to the unavailability of teachers, forcing students to either travel to distant schools or make do with the limited resources at hand.

To address these challenges, under the guidance of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, and with proactive efforts by Collector Ajit Vasant, significant strides have been made to enhance the educational environment in Korba district. Over 500 teachers, including 118 lecturers, 96 teachers, 263 assistant teachers, and 40 teachers from Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG), have been appointed.

Focused Measures to Bridge Educational Gaps

Korba district, with over 2,000 schools, has long struggled with teacher shortages. To tackle this, a comprehensive strategy was devised:

  1. Recruitment Drive:
Applications were invited from qualified candidates for higher secondary schools, and eligible candidates were selected based on merit.
  2. Preference to Local Tribes:
Special attention was given to candidates from Pahadi Korwa and Birhor tribes, ensuring their inclusion in teaching and support staff roles to strengthen their economic standing and integrate them into mainstream society.
  3. Transparent Appointments:
Teachers were appointed transparently, providing opportunities to unemployed local youth. Guest teachers like Chandrika Paikara and Shakuntala Kanwar shared their commitment to educating students and expressed satisfaction with the process.

Key Achievements in Educational Development

  • Teacher Appointments:
A total of 517 teachers were appointed, including lecturers, assistant teachers, and PVTG teachers. This has significantly improved the teaching infrastructure in single-teacher schools and enhanced the quality of education.
  • Support Staff:
Along with teachers, 270 support staff (peons) were also appointed to improve the functioning of schools.
  • Focus on Tribal Communities:
Marginalized tribes were prioritized for teaching and support roles, empowering them economically and socially.
  • Infrastructure Improvements:
    • Dilapidated school buildings are being renovated, and new structures have been approved.
    • Essential facilities such as kitchen sheds, toilets, and gas connections have been provided to ensure a conducive learning environment.

Educational Reforms and Student Welfare

To improve academic outcomes and student engagement:

  • Centralized Examination System:
Regular quarterly and half-yearly exams have been introduced to monitor progress.
  • Special Focus on Board Exams:
Weak students in classes 10th and 12th are receiving targeted support to enhance their performance ahead of board exams.
  • Increased Student Attendance:
Breakfast programs have been initiated to improve attendance, especially in primary and middle schools.

A Step Towards Academic Excellence

With the appointment of teachers and implementation of innovative educational policies, Korba district is now witnessing a positive transformation. Students are benefiting from timely syllabus completion and improved subject knowledge, while parents are expressing satisfaction with the enhanced teaching environment.

By prioritizing tribal inclusion, infrastructure development, and student welfare, Korba is setting a benchmark for holistic educational progress in the region.
