Raipur, November 29, 2024 Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai chaired a meeting of the Chhattisgarh State Road Safety Council at his residence office to review road safety measures and strategies to control road accidents in the state. Stressing the importance of following traffic regulations, CM Sai directed officials to enforce the use of helmets for two-wheeler riders and seat belts for four-wheeler drivers, alongside the strict implementation of road safety rules.
Focus on Public Awareness Campaigns
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for effective public awareness campaigns to educate citizens about traffic regulations. He underlined the necessity of regular district road safety committee meetings to monitor progress and address issues.
Key Measures to Enhance Road Safety
- Black Spot Rectifications: Urgent action was directed to address black spots on roads, which are accident-prone areas.
- Completion of Trauma Stabilization Units: CM Sai instructed authorities to expedite the construction of trauma stabilization units to provide timely medical aid to accident victims.
- Launch of Bus Sangwari App: During the meeting, CM Sai launched the “Bus Sangwari App,” developed by the Transport Department, which will simplify access to public transport information.
- Education on Traffic Rules: Traffic rules have been integrated into the school curriculum from Classes 1 to 10, ensuring students learn road safety early on.
Progress and Enforcement Updates
- Black Spot Improvements: Between September 2023 and October 2024, 101 black spots and 748 junctions have been improved.
- Electronic Surveillance: Traffic systems in Raipur, Bilaspur, and Nava Raipur now utilize electronic surveillance, with partial implementation in Bhilai and Durg.
- Enforcement Action: Over 6.7 lakh fines were issued by the Transport Department, and 4.87 lakh fines by the Police Department for traffic violations. Additionally, 7,826 licenses were suspended during the review period.
- Vehicle Upgrades: Safety features such as vehicle location tracking devices, speed governors, and panic buttons have been installed in thousands of vehicles across the state.
