Dehradun, September 11, 2026: The Uttarakhand Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, approved several proposals related to energy, medical education, sports, prison administration, legal services and infrastructure during its meeting on Friday.
Additional Secretary to the Chief Minister and Information Director General Banshidhar Tiwari briefed the media about the decisions taken by the Cabinet.
Electricity Commission Reports to Be Tabled
The Cabinet approved placing the 2024–25 annual report of the Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission before the state Assembly during the upcoming session.
Approval was also granted for presenting the commission’s annual accounts before the state legislature.
Prison Service Rules Updated
The Cabinet approved amendments to the Uttarakhand Prison Administration and Correctional Services Group ‘A’ and ‘B’ Service Rules, 2026.
The amendment will allow the newly created post of one Additional Inspector General of Prisons for the Correctional Wing under the Home Department to be incorporated into the cadre structure. The Cabinet also approved the formal promulgation of the revised service rules in the interest of the department and its employees.
Government Lawyers to Receive Revised Fees
The Cabinet approved the revision of fee rates paid to government advocates representing the state in the Supreme Court, High Court and subordinate courts.
The decision follows recommendations made by a seven-member review committee headed by the Chief Secretary, which examined the existing fee structure and proposed an increase in the remuneration of government lawyers.
MBBS Intern Stipend Raised
In an important decision for medical education, the Cabinet approved an increase in the monthly stipend for MBBS interns at government medical colleges in Srinagar, Haldwani, Dehradun, Haridwar and Almora.
The stipend will rise from ₹17,000 to a minimum of ₹25,000 per month.
Legal Metrology Rules Amended
The Cabinet approved the Uttarakhand Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Amendment Rules, 2026.
The amendment is part of the Centre’s Ease of Doing Business and trust-based regulatory framework reforms. It is aimed at simplifying the licensing process for weights and measures under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009.
33 Physical Education Posts Created
The Cabinet approved the creation of 33 posts of Additional Assistant Teacher—Physical Education under the Secondary Education Department.
These posts will be created by reallocating 33 positions from the existing 1,898 Level-7 Assistant Teacher—Physical Education posts. The move is linked to the state’s policy of providing out-of-turn government employment to sportspersons who win medals in national and international competitions.
Jobs Approved for Medal-Winning Athletes
Under the Uttarakhand Sports Policy, 2021, the Cabinet approved appointments against 243 posts in various departments for medal-winning athletes.
The departments covered include Sports, Youth Welfare, Home, Transport, Education and Forest. The appointments will be made under the provision for out-of-turn employment in gazetted and non-gazetted positions.
Mussoorie Ropeway Project Gets Land-Related Approval
The Cabinet approved the proposal to lease 972 square metres of land from the land purchased for the Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam parking facility in Mussoorie.
The land will be provided to Garhwal Sabha Mussoorie against the equivalent area earlier leased to it. The approval is connected with the construction of the upper terminal point and parking facility for the proposed ropeway between Purukul village in Dehradun and Library Chowk in Mussoorie.
Land Approved for ESI Hospital
The Cabinet also approved the allocation of 15 acres of identified land near the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation hospital in Haridwar for the construction and development of ESI-related facilities.
The decisions reflect the state government’s focus on regulatory simplification, improved support for medical trainees, employment opportunities for athletes and strengthening of public infrastructure.
