In a historic and spiritually uplifting event, 251 couples exchanged vows at Bageshwar Dham in the esteemed presence of President Droupadi Murmu, Governor Mangubhai Patel, and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. The grand Mass Wedding Ceremony, organized on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri, was an exemplary initiative promoting social unity and eradicating age-old societal barriers.

A Call for Social Awakening
Addressing the gathering, President Murmu emphasized the importance of eliminating social evils, raising awareness, and ensuring women’s rightful place in society. She commended Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri for his visionary efforts in uniting communities and promoting social harmony.
Quoting revered saints like Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Sant Ravidas, Kabir Das, and Meera Bai, the President highlighted how their teachings inspired generations to break free from discrimination and uplift marginalized sections of society. She praised Bageshwar Dham for carrying forward this rich tradition of spiritual guidance and social reform.
During the ceremony, President Murmu personally presented symbolic gifts to three newlywed couples, extending her heartfelt blessings for their prosperous married life. Among the 251 brides, 108 belonged to tribal communities, reflecting the inclusive nature of the event.
Women-Led Development: A National Priority
President Murmu reaffirmed India’s commitment to women-led development, stressing the need for education, healthcare, and security for girls. She called upon society to actively contribute to making daughters self-reliant and empowered, ensuring a stronger family, society, and nation.
“As we move towards India’s centenary of independence in 2047, we envision a self-reliant nation, not only economically but also in terms of social harmony and spiritual enlightenment. Saints play a vital role in guiding society towards compassion, unity, and welfare,” she remarked.
The President lauded Bageshwar Dham Seva Samiti for organizing the mass wedding, which not only relieved financial burdens on families but also promoted social inclusivity. She noted that apart from essential household gifts, newlyweds were also presented with sewing machines and other vocational tools, encouraging financial independence.
A Collective Effort for Nation-Building
Governor Mangubhai Patel expressed gratitude to President Murmu for gracing the event and emphasized the importance of social consciousness in driving national progress. He reiterated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India is on a determined path to becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav extended a warm welcome to President Murmu and commended Bageshwar Dham’s ongoing efforts in breaking social barriers. He highlighted how the initiative of inter-caste mass weddings demonstrated a shift away from rigid caste-based traditions, fostering inclusivity and unity.
“In the presence of spiritual leaders, government representatives, and the public, Bageshwar Dham is creating a new milestone in social cohesion and reform. This initiative aligns with India’s ethos of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’—the world as one family,” Dr. Yadav stated.
State Government’s Support for Brides
Dr. Yadav announced that each newlywed bride would receive ₹51,000 as a gift from the Madhya Pradesh government, ensuring a stable foundation for their married life. He extended his best wishes for a happy and fulfilling future to all couples.
Pandit Dhirendra Shastri’s Vision for Social Welfare
Renowned spiritual leader Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri made an impassioned appeal to temples and religious institutions to allocate donations towards supporting underprivileged girls’ marriages and education.
“If all religious trusts, temples, and social organizations commit to this cause, India will undoubtedly reclaim its stature as a global spiritual leader,” he stated.
The event witnessed participation from 20 NRIs, spiritual dignitaries, public representatives, and thousands of citizens, further amplifying its significance as a landmark in social reform and unity.
