Farmer Eragola Rajendra’s success story from Putkel village is a powerful reminder that farming can become far more rewarding when modern techniques meet timely guidance. By adopting mulching in chilli cultivation, he turned unused land into a source of steady income and earned around 6 lakh rupees.
What makes this story important is not only the profit, but the process behind it. Rajendra had earlier depended mainly on paddy cultivation, while much of his land remained unused after the harvest. With support from the horticulture department and financial assistance under the National Horticulture Mission, he was able to begin chilli farming in a more scientific and cost-effective way.
Mulching proved to be the turning point. It helped control weeds, conserve soil moisture and improve crop quality, all of which contributed to better yield. The result was about 30 quintals of chilli production in 2026, showing how a simple but smart agricultural practice can transform productivity.
This case also highlights a larger lesson for rural development. Farmers do not always need big changes to improve their income; often, what they need is the right advice, a little support and access to suitable technology. When departments work closely with farmers and encourage them to adopt modern methods, agriculture becomes more profitable and more sustainable.
Rajendra’s experience should encourage other farmers to look beyond traditional practices and explore horticulture as a serious income option. His story shows that with the right blend of technique, guidance and government support, even small farms can generate impressive results.
