Dehradun, October 27, 2026: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the honorarium of sanitation workers serving in various Uttarakhand government departments would be increased soon, with a meeting to be convened at the earliest to take the matter forward.

Speaking at a procession programme marking Maharishi Valmiki Prakatotsav at the Dehradun Municipal Corporation, Dhami referred to the workers as Paryavaran Mitras. He did not specify the proposed increase or an implementation date.

Valmiki’s Teachings Highlight Equality and Dignity

Paying tribute to Maharishi Valmiki, the Chief Minister said the Ramayana introduced the world to Lord Ram’s life while conveying enduring lessons on truth, duty, sacrifice and compassion.

Dhami said Valmiki’s life teaches that a person’s identity rests on knowledge, actions and contribution to society—not caste or social standing. He called for drawing inspiration from these ideals to build a society free from discrimination.

He added that the Ramayana encourages respect for human dignity, equality and brotherhood, alongside commitment to the path of righteousness.

Cultural Heritage and Inclusive Development

Dhami said development and the preservation of cultural heritage should advance together. Referring to Ayodhya, he cited the inclusion of Maharishi Valmiki, Nishadraj and Mata Shabari in the Ram temple complex as an expression of social harmony.

He also mentioned the naming of Ayodhya’s international airport after Maharishi Valmiki.

The Chief Minister credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership with expanding welfare support for disadvantaged communities. He highlighted housing assistance, LPG connections, healthcare coverage, drinking-water services and free ration programmes as measures aimed at improving families’ living conditions.

Education and Housing Support Outlined

Dhami outlined state initiatives for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities, saying students receive scholarships from Classes 1 to 12. He also referred to 15 free hostels, five residential schools, three industrial training institutes and free coaching for competitive examinations.

On housing, he said the Atal Awas Yojana had been restarted, providing ₹1.20 lakh in assistance to eligible homeless Scheduled Caste families to build houses.

He also highlighted assistance of ₹50,000 for eligible inter-caste marriages involving a Scheduled Caste bride or groom, and ₹50,000 in marriage assistance for daughters from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe families.

The government’s objective, he said, is to ensure that no section of society is left behind in the state’s development.

Dehradun Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, National Commission for Safai Karamcharis Chairman Bhagwat Prasad Makwana, city BJP president Siddharth Agarwal, Municipal Commissioner Alok Pandey and other representatives attended the programme.
