Growing Investment in the Medical Device Park

Bhopal, March 7, 2025 | Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has stated that Madhya Pradesh’s favorable policies, developed infrastructure, and facilities like the Medical Device Park are making the state a preferred investment destination for pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers. At the Global Investors Summit (GIS) in Bhopal, extensive discussions took place on the potential of the healthcare, pharma, and meditech sectors. Experts expressed their satisfaction over Madhya Pradesh’s rapid progress in becoming a major center for medical device manufacturing. Dr. Yadav also termed the 75-acre Medical & Pharmaceutical Park in Ujjain as the “best destination” for global investors.

Advancing with the ‘Molecule to Machine’ Concept

During the ‘Molecules-to-Machine (Healthcare, Pharma, Meditech)’ session at GIS-Bhopal, experts highlighted how Madhya Pradesh is strengthening the entire healthcare ecosystem—from pharmaceutical manufacturing to medical device production. The state is witnessing rapid growth in pharmaceutical companies, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) manufacturing units, and medical device production.

Growing Investment in the Medical Device Park

Rajiv Chhibber, coordinator of the Association of Indian Medical Device Industry, shared that 23 manufacturers have already confirmed their investment in the Medical Device Park being developed at Vikram Udyog Nagari in Ujjain. Due to the government’s new industrial policy, which offers incentives and facilities, the cost of setting up units has significantly reduced, attracting more investors.

Immense Potential in Medical Textiles

In his inaugural speech at GIS-Bhopal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recognized Madhya Pradesh as a key hub for “medical textiles.” The state’s significant role in manufacturing surgical gowns, masks, PPE kits, sanitary napkins, and other medical products was highlighted. India gained global recognition for its production of masks and PPE kits during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Madhya Pradesh is now carrying that momentum forward.

A Leading Pharmaceutical State

Madhya Pradesh is among India’s leading pharmaceutical states, with over 270 pharma companies operating in the region, including more than 80 in Pithampur alone. The medicines produced in the state are exported to over 160 countries. Major investors include Sun Pharma, Cipla, Lupin, Alembic, Torrent Pharma, and Alkem.

Government Support and Fast-Track Approvals

Under the leadership of CM Dr. Yadav, the state government is providing full support to pharmaceutical and medical device companies. The licensing process has been simplified, and all necessary approvals are being ensured within a stipulated time under the Public Service Guarantee Act.

₹17,000 Crore Investment and 49,000 Jobs Expected

Due to Madhya Pradesh’s push for investments in healthcare and medical education, GIS-Bhopal witnessed investment proposals exceeding ₹17,000 crore in this sector. This is expected to generate nearly 49,000 new jobs, further expanding healthcare services and medical education institutions in the state.

Global Recognition for Madhya Pradesh’s Pharma Industry

At GIS-Bhopal, investors from across the world gained insights into Madhya Pradesh’s capabilities in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, and medical education infrastructure sectors. This has given the state’s investment potential global exposure. Currently, Madhya Pradesh’s pharmaceutical sector provides employment to over 1 lakh people, with more than 270 drug manufacturing companies and over 250 pharmacy institutions operating in the state. The state’s pharmaceutical products are exported to over 160 countries, with 39 API manufacturing units established. The pharma industry contributes 25% to the state’s total exports, supported by five commercial airports and six inland container depots for logistics.

Global Investors Showing Interest in Madhya Pradesh

More than 300 industry leaders, policymakers, and healthcare experts participated in GIS-Bhopal to discuss investment and innovation opportunities in India’s healthcare and pharma sector. With the Madhya Pradesh government’s proactive approach, the state is rapidly positioning itself as a new hub for pharma and medical device manufacturing, not just in India but globally.
