Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has taken a decisive and humanitarian stance following recent accidents caused by carbide guns, ordering that the treatment of all injured children and citizens must receive the highest priority. He directed hospitals to ensure that every form of medical care, including surgeries and advanced ophthalmic treatment, be made immediately available to the injured. Where necessary, air ambulance services are to be deployed, and assistance from the Chief Minister’s discretionary fund will be provided for critical patients.

Dr. Yadav described carbide guns as lethal explosive devices posing a direct threat to public safety. He instructed that their illegal manufacture, sale, and possession be completely prohibited under a zero tolerance mandate. Citing the seriousness of eye, facial, and hand injuries reported particularly among children in Bhopal and adjoining districts, the Chief Minister reiterated his government’s unwavering commitment to protect the lives and health of every citizen through swift and uncompromising action.

Coordinated Enforcement and Legal Measures

In compliance with the Chief Minister’s directions, Chief Secretary Anurag Jain convened a high level review meeting at Mantralaya, ordering statewide implementation of legal action under the Arms Act 1959, Explosives Act 1884, and Explosive Substances Act 1908. Carbide guns, he stated, generate explosive pressure through acetylene gas combustion, often leading to severe burns, blast injuries, and permanent blindness.

District Magistrates have been instructed to issue orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) banning the manufacture, sale, and use of carbide guns. Violators will face immediate FIRs, confiscation, and prosecution. Cyber and law enforcement agencies are ensuring that e commerce platforms and social media outlets suspend listings and advertisements related to carbide gun sales. Public awareness campaigns across schools, panchayats, and civic institutions will highlight that these guns are not toys but explosive weapons.

Enforcement teams have been tasked to inspect shops, vendors, and online platforms, collect evidentiary records, conduct forensic assessments, and coordinate disposal with PESO authorities. Police training, vigilance hotlines, and public outreach will ensure citizens promptly report suspicious activities.

Ongoing Medical Support

According to the Health Department’s latest report, most of the injured victims from the Diwali incidents have recovered and been discharged. Only two patients with severe ocular injuries remain under treatment, and all districts have been instructed to maintain continuous monitoring and ensure referrals to advanced medical institutions where required.

Madhya Pradesh’s response illustrates administrative alertness combined with human empathy. Under Dr. Yadav’s leadership, the state’s firm crackdown on carbide guns is not merely an act of law enforcement but a statement of moral resolve that public safety, especially of children, stands above all compromise.
