Kanker (North Bastar), November 29, 2024 The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is transforming the lives of poor families in Kanker district by turning their dream of owning a pucca house into reality. For many, owning a permanent home means ensuring safety, comfort, and a dignified life with basic facilities like a kitchen, bedroom, and toilet.

In the Maoist-affected remote area of Koylibeda block, Meshia Podda, a resident of Kandari village, is among those whose aspirations are being fulfilled through the PMAY. He shared how his family has lived in a kutcha house for years, enduring numerous hardships across different seasons.

Struggles of Living in a Kutcha House

Meshia explained how monsoons brought leaking roofs, damp floors, and constant fears of snakes and scorpions entering their home. During winters, the cold air made the living conditions unbearable, often causing illnesses in the family. Furthermore, the threat of insects and wild animals entering their fragile home was a constant concern.

Now, with a pucca house being constructed under PMAY, Meshia and his family are looking forward to a life free from these challenges.

A Life-Changing Initiative in Remote Areas

Meshia expressed his gratitude, stating that the government’s welfare scheme has brought significant changes to their lives, even in this remote Maoist-affected region. With support from local authorities, the layout for his house was prepared promptly, and building materials were delivered efficiently, enabling the construction to progress. The foundation and columns have already been completed, and the family eagerly awaits the completion of their dream home.

He shared his excitement, saying, “The construction of a pucca house will bring comfort, safety, and peace of mind for my family. No longer will we have to worry about seasonal troubles or live in constant fear.”

Meshia extended his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai for their efforts in providing housing to the underprivileged through PMAY. The initiative continues to make a meaningful impact, especially in remote and challenging regions like Kanker.
