A New Bridge Brings Relief to Commuters

Raipur, January 8, 2025

A high-level bridge being constructed on the Kanhar River will soon connect Sanawal, a region in Balrampur-Ramanujganj district of Chhattisgarh, with Jharkhand, providing significant relief to local commuters. The bridge, which is being built at a cost of approximately ₹15.20 crores, is progressing rapidly. Once completed, it will provide uninterrupted year-round connectivity to over 40,000 residents from around 20 villages in the area.

Significant Reduction in Travel Distance

Currently, residents of Sanawal depend on cities like Garhwa, Nagar Untari, and Dhurki in Jharkhand for daily shopping and medical needs. Reaching these cities requires long travel distances, but the new bridge will significantly reduce travel time. • The current 100-kilometer distance from Dhauli to Garhwa will shrink to just 55 kilometers.
  • The 70-kilometer distance from Dhauli to Nagar Untari will reduce to 35 kilometers.

Improved Connectivity and Economic Boost

The bridge will directly connect villages in Wadrafnagar and Ramchandrapur tehsils of Chhattisgarh with Jharkhand. This improved connectivity is expected to boost trade and business activities between the two states, while also facilitating seamless transportation.

The bridge, being constructed by the Public Works Department, spans between Dhauli in Ramchandrapur block and Balchaura in Jharkhand. The structure will be 312 meters long and 8.4 meters wide. Around 50% of the work has already been completed. Out of 12 piers and two abutments, five piers and one abutment have been constructed so far. The remaining work is progressing swiftly, and the project is expected to be completed by June 2025.

Beneficiaries of the Project

The construction of the bridge will directly benefit residents of 20 villages, including Dhauli, Kameshwarnagar, Jhara, Kushfar, Semarwa, Indravati Pur, Barwahi, Dolangi, Oranga, Revatipur, Sundarpur, Surangpan, Kundpan, Piparpan, Duguru, Pachawal, Trishuli, Silaju, Ucharwa, and Anandpur. Additionally, travelers commuting to and from Garhwa, Nagar Untari, and Dhurki in Jharkhand will also benefit greatly.

Government’s Commitment to Timely and Quality Construction

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai and Deputy Chief Minister and Public Works Minister Shri Arun Saw have instructed officials to ensure the quality of construction and meet the project deadline. The bridge, once operational, will not only ease transportation for local residents but also strengthen trade and social ties between Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
