Farmer Vishwanath to Clear His Debts by Selling Paddy
Raipur, November 27, 2024 The lives of farmers like Vishwanath Devangan from Narayanpur district are being transformed thanks to the proactive policies of the government. Vishwanath, who owns 3 acres of farmland, expressed relief at being able to clear his agricultural debts with the earnings from selling paddy at the support price of ₹3,100 per quintal, a rate guaranteed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and implemented under Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai’s leadership.
Vishwanath plans to utilize the income from paddy sales to repay his loans, fund agricultural activities, and meet family expenses. He explained that cultivating his 3-acre land required significant investment in fertilizers. While cooperative societies provided subsidized fertilizers, he often had to purchase additional supplies at higher market prices, which increased his financial burden, forcing him to take loans.
Streamlined Paddy Procurement Process
Starting November 14, 2024, paddy procurement for the Kharif marketing year 2024-25 is underway across Chhattisgarh, including Narayanpur. The district has set up 17 procurement centers, where farmers like Vishwanath are selling their produce. On Wednesday, he sold 80 quintals of paddy at the Mahaka procurement center.
Vishwanath praised the simplified and transparent procurement process, especially the online token system, which eliminates the need for long waits. He shared how the ease of booking slots in advance and the timely disbursement of payments have reduced the hassles farmers faced in the past.
Timely Payment Brings Relief
Highlighting the promptness of the system, Vishwanath mentioned that several of his fellow farmers received payment the very next day after selling their produce. This timely payment mechanism has provided a significant relief to farmers who previously struggled with delayed earnings.
He also commended the well-organized procurement centers, where adequate arrangements and supportive officials have ensured a seamless experience for farmers. The elimination of middlemen has further added to the farmers’ confidence in the system.
Praise for Government Efforts
Vishwanath expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and the district administration for their efforts in making the procurement process farmer-friendly. He lauded the government’s commitment to ensuring that farmers receive the right price for their hard work without any hurdles.
As Chhattisgarh continues to implement innovative measures like advance slot booking and prompt payment systems, farmers are hopeful that these initiatives will remain in place, allowing them to focus on agriculture without financial stress.
This progressive approach is not only improving farmers’ lives but also reinforcing their trust in the government’s commitment to their welfare.
