Varanasi, November 13, 2024: This Dev Deepawali, the Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh is set to present Kashi’s ancient spiritual history through an immersive 3D projection mapping show for tourists. The show will display stories of the sacred river Ganga’s descent, the significance of Dev Deepawali, and Kashi’s deep-rooted cultural and religious heritage. Devotees will also experience a multimedia laser and light show with devotional songs dedicated to Lord Shiva, performed against the backdrop of the Ganga’s flowing waters. This 25-minute show will be repeated multiple times to allow all visitors a chance to experience it. The event will be held at the historic Chet Singh Ghat.
Preparations are in full swing for Dev Deepawali, which falls on November 15, coinciding with the holy day of Kartik Purnima. The festival will feature the traditional illumination of lamps and Ganga Aarti, while also incorporating a modern spectacle of lights and laser projections. Through 3D projection mapping, ancient structures along the ghats—witnesses to Kashi’s millennia-old spiritual history—will come alive with stories of Sanatan Dharma.
Kaushal Raj Sharma, Commissioner of Varanasi, shared that the show will present the city’s spiritual history, including anecdotes of Anand Kanan, Lord Shiva’s arrival in Kashi, the stories of sages, the influence of figures like Lord Buddha, Jain Tirthankaras, Emperor Ashoka, Tulsidas, Kabir, and Ahilyabai Holkar’s temple and pond renovations. Additionally, the tale of Ganga’s descent to earth and the significance of Dev Deepawali will be highlighted. There will be five to six devotional tracks devoted to Lord Shiva, with the entire show projected through 24 laser projectors.
The laser and multimedia light show will synchronize visuals with musical compositions, adding a unique rhythm to the experience. According to the District Magistrate of Varanasi, the laser show at Chet Singh Ghat will take place at 5:30 pm, 7:00 pm, 8:00 pm, and 8:45 pm, with each 25-minute segment repeated several times, ensuring that all visitors to Kashi on Dev Deepawali can witness this spectacular event.
