For a family with limited income, the assurance of regular food supplies can make a real difference. It reduces the need to buy essential items from the market and allows money to be used for other household needs. Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister Foodgrain Assistance Scheme provides this assurance through the public distribution system, helping eligible families meet their basic food requirements.
Priyanka Singh of Rapang village in Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur district is one such beneficiary. Her five-member family receives 35 kilograms of rice every month, along with about two kilograms of gram, one kilogram of sugar and two kilograms of salt through her ration card. This regular supply helps the family manage its daily meals and brings relief to the household budget.
The value of the scheme lies in its regularity. When foodgrain reaches a family on time, it provides not only nutrition but also a sense of security. Priyanka Singh says the support has made it easier to meet her family’s daily needs and has reduced the burden of buying rations from the market. The savings can then be used for other essential expenses.
Under the scheme, Antyodaya ration card holder families receive 35 kilograms of rice every month, while priority-category families receive foodgrain according to the number of members in the household. Fair price shops are the main channel through which this support reaches beneficiaries. For the system to work effectively, supplies must be regular, quality must be maintained and beneficiaries should not face delays or inconvenience.
Priyanka’s experience was highlighted during the Seva Sankalp campaign, which aims to take the benefits of welfare schemes to citizens and share the experiences of beneficiaries. Her story shows how a routine entitlement can become an important support for a family. Food security is not only about the availability of grain; it is about the confidence that a household will be able to meet its basic needs.
