With nearly 80% of rural households now receiving piped water, the initiative has brought relief and empowerment to millions, particularly in villages like Chirpoti in Durg district.

The Jal Jeevan Mission has achieved remarkable milestones in Chhattisgarh:
- Out of the targeted 50 lakh rural households, 39.82 lakh homes now have piped water connections.
- In the past year alone, over 5.5 lakh households have gained access to safe and reliable water supply.
This mission has not only resolved water scarcity but also brought significant ease to the daily lives of rural women, reducing the physical and mental toll of fetching water from distant sources.
Chirpoti Village: A Model of Progress
In Chirpoti village, where water scarcity once plagued daily life, the installation of pipelines and individual household connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission has transformed the community. With over 450 residents now benefiting from clean and safe drinking water, the initiative has fostered health, convenience, and empowerment.
Women Share Their Stories of Transformation
- Kuleshwari Sahu (28 years)
- Recounting her struggles during pregnancy, Kuleshwari said, “Fetching water from far away was exhausting, especially for a pregnant woman. My young son had to assist me, which affected our health. With piped water now available at home, our lives have improved significantly, and my family is much happier.”
- Urvashi Sahu (50 years)
- A homemaker and a member of the Jal Vahini team, Urvashi shared how the mission boosted her confidence. “Earlier, my role was confined to household chores. Now, after receiving training, I inspire other women in the community. I even had the honor of being recognized by the Prime Minister in Delhi, a moment of immense pride for me.”
- Nidhruti Chauhan (34 years)
- Since moving to Chirpoti in 2017, Nidhruti faced the daily challenge of fetching water. “Earlier, I spent a lot of time and energy collecting water, leaving little for other activities. Thanks to the Jal Jeevan Mission, we now have water at home, allowing us to focus on other important tasks.”

The mission has not only alleviated the burden of water collection for women but has also empowered them to actively contribute to family and societal development. With the availability of piped water, women in Chirpoti now have more time and energy to invest in education, entrepreneurship, and community initiatives.
