Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, on December 25 to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for the ambitious Ken-Betwa River Linking Project, the country’s first such multi-purpose national initiative. The project will address irrigation, drinking water, and green energy needs across Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Additionally, PM Modi will inaugurate Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project, perform a ground-breaking ceremony for 1,153 Atal Gram Good Governance Buildings, and release a commemorative stamp and coin in Vajpayee’s memory.

PM Modi is scheduled to arrive in Khajuraho at 12:10 PM and depart for Delhi at 2:20 PM. The event will be attended by Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, and Union Minister for Jal Shakti C.R. Patil.

Ken-Betwa River Linking Project: Realizing Atal Ji’s Dream

The foundation stone for the Ken-Betwa Link National Project will symbolize the fulfillment of Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s vision of river interlinking. This is India’s first national project implementing pressurized underground pipe irrigation systems on a large scale.

The project will benefit 10 districts in Madhya Pradesh—Chhatarpur, Panna, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Damoh, Shivpuri, Datia, Raisen, Vidisha, and Sagar—providing irrigation to 8.11 lakh hectares of agricultural land and impacting 44 lakh farming families. It will also bring irrigation benefits to 59,000 hectares in Uttar Pradesh, stabilizing irrigation for 1.92 lakh hectares across districts like Mahoba, Jhansi, Lalitpur, and Banda.

Key Features:

  • Irrigation Coverage: 8.10 lakh hectares in MP and 59,000 hectares in UP.
  • Green Energy Generation: 103 MW hydropower and 27 MW solar power.
  • Drinking Water Supply: To 44 lakh people in MP and 21 lakh in UP.

The project will foster sustainable development, reduce water shortages, improve the groundwater table, and create employment opportunities.

Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project

PM Modi will inaugurate the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project in Khandwa district. This is India’s first floating solar plant on the Narmada River, highlighting the government’s focus on clean and renewable energy.

The first phase of the project began power generation in October 2024. With further expansion planned, the project represents a significant step toward making MP self-reliant in energy production.

Atal Gram Good Governance Buildings

As part of strengthening rural infrastructure, PM Modi will also inaugurate 1,153 Atal Gram Good Governance Buildings in Madhya Pradesh. This initiative aims to empower rural governance, ensuring efficient delivery of services at the grassroots level.

Madhya Pradesh has identified 2,500 village panchayats needing new or improved governance buildings. The first phase includes 1,153 buildings with an allocation of ₹437.62 crores.

This aligns with Vajpayee’s belief that functional panchayat buildings are critical for effective local governance.

Atal Ji’s Legacy Honored

The commemorative stamp and coin release by PM Modi will celebrate the life and vision of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, highlighting his contributions to good governance, rural empowerment, and infrastructural growth.

Stay tuned for the historic event on December 25, a landmark day for Madhya Pradesh and India.
