Empowering Local Artisans with Global-Vocal Support

Canon Times Bhopal: Tuesday, March 11, 2025: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav emphasized that the ‘One District-One Product’ (ODOP) initiative is a significant step towards empowering artisans and farmers by promoting self-reliance. The ODOP Expo, organized as part of the Global Investors Summit (GIS) in Bhopal, provided a global platform to showcase the unique craftsmanship and agricultural products of local artisans and farmers. The exhibition featured exclusive ODOP products from 38 districts, presenting an exceptional blend of tradition and innovation.

During the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the ODOP initiative as a powerful effort toward building a self-reliant India. He noted that each district’s distinctive product could become an emblem of its cultural and economic identity. The ODOP program is paving the way for transforming local products into global brands.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav highlighted that the ODOP Expo at GIS-Bhopal has offered a valuable opportunity for promoting local products, particularly handicrafts and agricultural produce, on an international platform.

Live Demonstration of Art, Handicrafts, and Agricultural Products

The expo featured specialized stalls for ODOP products, divided into Live Counters and Process Counters. Artisans demonstrated the crafting processes of eight major products, including Bagh print, Zari-Zardozi, Batik print, carpets, Chanderi sarees, bamboo items, sandstone, and fabric jackets.

International investors and industrialists attending GIS-Bhopal got a closer look at the artisans’ skills and their creative processes. The ‘Kumhar Pura’ and ‘Technical Zone’ live counters emerged as key attractions of the exhibition.

Recognition for Food and Agricultural Products

The ODOP Expo also showcased 38 district-specific products related to food, spices, and fruits, highlighting their manufacturing processes. Opportunities for product purchase and export were also made available. Additionally, investors collected product samples, increasing the possibility of establishing future business partnerships.

Notable ODOP Products of Madhya Pradesh

The ODOP scheme in Madhya Pradesh is promoting various traditional, textile, and agricultural products from different districts. These include Burhanpur’s bananas, Gwalior’s potato-based products and stone tiles, Khargone’s chilies, Mandsaur’s garlic, Neemuch’s coriander, Satna’s tomato-based items, Morena’s Gajak and mustard products, Indore’s potato-based items, Bhopal’s guava products, Chanderi’s sarees, Maheshwar’s sarees and handloom items, Tikamgarh’s clay craft and handicrafts, and Bagh print from Dhar.

Madhya Pradesh’s GI-Tagged Products

Several products from Madhya Pradesh have received Geographical Indication (GI) tags, including Bagh print, Chinnoor rice from Balaghat, bell metal art from Datia and Tikamgarh, Chanderi sarees, Gond paintings, Gwalior’s handmade carpets, Jabalpur’s stone craft, Jhabua’s Kadaknath chicken, Indore’s leather toys, Maheshwari sarees, Morena’s Gajak, Ratlami Sev, Rewa’s Sundarja mangoes, Ujjain’s Batik print, Sehore’s Sharbati wheat, Waraseoni’s handloom sarees, and Dindori’s metal work.

Dialogue Between Investors and Local Entrepreneurs

The expo facilitated valuable interactions between investors and local entrepreneurs, laying the foundation for expanding the market reach of Madhya Pradesh’s artisans and products. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav stated, “The engagement with foreign investors has laid a strong groundwork for offering our state’s unique products a global commercial platform.”

The ODOP Expo at GIS-Bhopal has proven that Madhya Pradesh’s traditional products possess the potential to compete effectively in the global marketplace. This event will undoubtedly become a milestone in elevating local products to new heights.
