Comprehensive Plan to Boost Learning Skills in Class 9 Students
Canon Times Bhopal: Tuesday, March 11, 2025: The School Education Department of Madhya Pradesh has launched an innovative Bridge Course designed to enhance learning levels and skills among students entering Class 9 in government schools. A massive training program has been conducted, preparing 9,312 resource persons specializing in Hindi, English, and Mathematics. These experts were trained at the Valmi Institute in Bhopal during February.

The state boasts approximately 4,200 high schools and 4,100 higher secondary government schools. From March, a large-scale training program began for one teacher per subject (Hindi, English, and Mathematics) across these schools. This initiative aims to train around 27,000 teachers to effectively implement the Bridge Course, ultimately helping reduce dropout rates significantly.
Effective Implementation Plan for Bridge Course
Trained teachers will initiate Bridge Course sessions starting in April and then resume from June 16 to July 20. The program will be rolled out across all government high and higher secondary schools. In addition to Hindi, English, and Mathematics, students will also receive lessons in Science and Sanskrit. A detailed timetable for the Bridge Course has been designed by the Directorate of Public Education.
Baseline Testing for Enhanced Learning
A Baseline Test will be conducted as part of the Bridge Course on April 5 and April 12, focusing on English, Mathematics, and Hindi. The test papers will be made available on the School Education Department’s “Vimarsh” portal by March 31. To ensure smooth execution, District Education Officers have been given specific instructions. Students unable to take the test on scheduled dates will have alternative arrangements available.
Teachers will evaluate the answer sheets on the same day of the test, allowing them to identify students requiring additional support. Special Bridge Course classes will be conducted in Hindi, English, and Mathematics for those with low proficiency levels.
Endline Test for Measuring Progress
To assess the effectiveness of the Bridge Course, an Endline Test will be held from July 21 to July 25 after the course’s completion. The Directorate of Public Education has provided guidelines to all government schools to ensure proper implementation of this evaluation.
The Bridge Course will be monitored at three levels: State, Division, and District. District Education Officers are required to monitor at least 10 schools each month, assisted by the District Project Coordinator and Block Education Officer.
Rigorous District-Level Evaluation for Quality Improvement
During the Bridge Course, district-level officers will randomly select and assess at least 10% of students’ answer sheets. Continuous efforts will be made by the Directorate of Public Education throughout the year to enhance the learning capabilities of underperforming students. This meticulous monitoring and assessment process aims to boost learning outcomes and reduce dropout rates across government schools.
