Focus on Enhancing School Efficiency: Secretary Siddharth Komal Pardeshi

Raipur, November 16, 2024: Secretary of Chhattisgarh’s School Education Department, Shri Siddharth Komal Singh Pardeshi, has directed all educational authorities to ensure rigorous preparations to enhance school efficiency in light of the upcoming **National Achievement Survey (NAS)**. The survey, scheduled for December 4, will assess the competencies of students in Classes 3, 6, and 9. Conducted under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, the survey will evaluate students’ academic performance across various schools in Chhattisgarh.

### **Comprehensive Preparations Directed**
Shri Pardeshi has instructed education officials to initiate robust administrative, managerial, and academic preparations at all levels to ensure the seamless execution of **NAS 2024**. District Education Officers (DEOs), District Mission Coordinators, and DIET Principals have been jointly designated as nodal officers for the survey, with 99 district-level officials managing its implementation. Additionally, in 146 blocks, Block Education Officers (BEOs), Block Resource Centre Coordinators (BRCCs), and Cluster Principals will oversee its execution as joint nodal officers.

### **Objective of NAS 2024**
The National Achievement Survey is aligned with the goals of the **National Education Policy (NEP) 2020** and aims to establish high-quality, globally benchmarked assessments based on the **National Curriculum Framework 2023**. This evaluation will not only assess students in key stages of learning but also provide an appraisal of teachers, schools, and the overall education system. Findings will guide future enhancements in educational quality and determine state rankings at the national level.

### **Assessment Format**
– **Class 3**: 45 questions in **Language, Mathematics, and Environmental Studies**, to be completed in 90 minutes.
– **Class 6**: 51 questions on the same subjects, also in 90 minutes.
– **Class 9**: 60 questions covering **Language, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science**, with a 120-minute duration.

The assessment will follow a no-negative-marking policy and will be conducted in the medium of instruction used in the selected schools.

### **Survey Scope and Transparency**
A total of **3,420 schools** from 33 districts in Chhattisgarh have been selected as sample schools, covering government, aided, unaided private, central, and Navodaya schools. Importantly, no teachers, whether from government or private schools, will be involved as examiners or observers to ensure impartiality. Instead, **3,800 trainee teachers** from DIET colleges, D.El.Ed., B.Ed., and M.Ed. programs will conduct the assessments after undergoing specialized training.

For added transparency, observers from CBSE’s administrative and academic teams will monitor each examination center.

### **Preparatory Measures**
To prepare students for the survey, the **SCERT** and the **Samagra Shiksha Project** have distributed question banks and reading cards to all schools. Special mock tests are being conducted across private and government schools. Additionally, **19,000 student-teachers** from 146 private educational colleges in the state have volunteered their assistance in these preparatory activities.

The NAS 2024 serves as a significant opportunity for Chhattisgarh’s students to showcase their academic capabilities on a national platform while also providing a robust foundation for further strengthening the state’s education system.
