Women Utilize Funds to Open Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts for Their Daughters’ Prosperity

Mahasamund, December 10, 2024 The Mahatari Vandan Scheme is proving to be a transformative initiative for women, enabling them to secure the future of their daughters. Beneficiaries are channeling the monthly financial aid received under the scheme to open Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts, ensuring a stable financial foundation for their daughters’ education and marriage.

Empowering Women and Building Dreams

As the state government approaches its one-year milestone, this scheme has emerged as a significant step toward women’s economic empowerment and self-reliance. Launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, the scheme has benefitted over 7 million women across the state.

Women in Mahasamund’s urban areas have adopted an innovative approach to utilize the scheme’s funds. Residents of Ward No. 2, Imli Bhatha, recently gathered to open Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts. The Women and Child Development Department facilitated the process, inviting postal officials to open 36 new accounts, enabling these women to start saving systematically.

Transforming Lives: Beneficiaries’ Stories

  • Preeti Diwan, a mother of a 2.5-year-old daughter, expressed her gratitude to Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai for the scheme. “This monthly aid has eased my worries about my daughter’s future. Today, I’ve opened her first savings account, which will help secure her education and marriage,” she said.
  • Similarly, Manisha Yadav, whose daughter is 1.5 years old, shared her newfound motivation. “Previously, I used the funds for household expenses, but the Anganwadi workers inspired me to save for my daughter’s future. Today, I’m proud to open her account,” she explained.
  • Gayatri Devangan, another beneficiary, shared her relief. “While my elder daughter already has a Sukanya Samriddhi account, I couldn’t save for my younger daughter due to financial constraints. Thanks to this scheme, I’ve taken the first step toward securing her future.”

Community Recognition and Support

The event concluded with a special ceremony where the beneficiaries were honored with traditional tilak and aarti for their participation. The gathering was attended by Project Officer Shail Navik, Supervisor Sheela Pradhan, and local Anganwadi workers, who played a pivotal role in encouraging women to prioritize long-term savings.

About Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana

The Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) is a flagship savings scheme introduced under the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” campaign by the Government of India. Aimed at ensuring daughters’ bright futures, the scheme provides financial aid for education and marriage.

Key highlights of the scheme include:

  • Eligibility: The account can be opened for girls aged below 10 years.
  • Where to Open: Available at post offices and authorized government banks.
  • Investment Limits: A minimum annual deposit of ₹250 and a maximum of ₹1.5 lakh.
  • Interest Rate: Offers higher annual returns compared to other savings schemes.
  • Tenure: Contributions are made for 14 years, with maturity at 21 years.
