Varanasi is all set to witness a grand spectacle on the occasion of Dev Deepawali, with preparations completed for the divine event. On the occasion of Kartik Purnima today, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will inaugurate the Namo Ghat and kickstart the celebrations of Dev Deepawali. The event will also be attended by Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and Union Minister Hardeep Puri.

Over 17 lakh oil lamps will be lit across the ghats, kunds, temples, and ponds of Kashi, a result of massive public participation. With over 12 lakh lamps planned to be placed on the ghats, the total number of lamps could exceed 17 lakh, many of which are crafted from cow dung. The ghats of Kashi will be adorned with this beautiful array of lights, creating a magical and otherworldly sight, particularly during the Ganga Arti.

In terms of security, the police and water police have made extensive arrangements. Varanasi has been declared a “No-Fly Zone” for the duration of the event, with restrictions on drones, kites, balloons, and other flying objects. To manage the huge influx of tourists—estimated to be over 10 lakh—hotel, guest house, boat, and cruise bookings are already confirmed. A 3D projection mapping laser show will be held at Chet Singh Ghat, showcasing Kashi’s rich religious and historical legacy. Tourists can also enjoy a laser show featuring green crackers and Shiv bhajans on the riverbanks.

The administration has taken additional steps for the safety of the public, including the presence of doctors on alert, mandatory life jackets for boat passengers, and teams of NDRF, water ambulances, and fire brigades stationed across the ghats. There will also be traffic diversions and designated parking areas to manage the crowds.

At the renowned Dashashwamedh Ghat, the regular Ganga Aarti will be given a grand makeover. Additionally, a special tribute will be paid to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the Kargil War, with the ceremony dedicated to their memory. This year marks the Silver Jubilee of their heroic efforts, and Indian war heroes will be honored with the “Bhagirath Shaurya Samman.”

With its dazzling lights, rich rituals, and spiritual atmosphere, Dev Deepawali in Varanasi promises to be an unforgettable event that attracts millions of devotees and tourists from around the world.
