Earning Over ₹1 Lakh Annually with Poultry Farming
Raipur, November 29, 2024 Nageshwari Verma, a resident of Kathia village, has transformed her life from being an ordinary homemaker to becoming a successful entrepreneur fondly called “Lakpati Didi.” Once confined to household chores, today she stands as a role model, earning between ₹1.5–2 lakh annually through poultry farming.
With her growing income, she has bought a vehicle, is providing quality education to her children, and is preparing to expand her business to include 1,000 chickens.
The Beginning of a Transformation
Nageshwari’s journey began five years ago when she took a ₹1.5 lakh loan with the support of the Bihan scheme, a women’s self-help initiative. With additional assistance from MGNREGA, she constructed a poultry shed and started small-scale chicken farming.
Initially, she sold her produce to local poultry businesses. Over time, as her venture grew, her buyers began coming directly to her. Today, Nageshwari manages 500 chickens and has plans to double her capacity.
Achievements Beyond Income
Nageshwari credits her success to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, saying, “I am what I am today because of their support and the opportunities provided to women like me under government schemes.”
Her earnings have not only improved her family’s financial stability but have also enabled her to:
- Build a new home.
- Purchase a two-wheeler vehicle.
- Provide quality education for her children, with her son pursuing a BBA degree and her daughter planning her future career.
Expanding Horizons
Buoyed by her success, Nageshwari now plans to scale her operations to 1,000 chickens, making her one of the leading poultry farmers in her region. Her story reflects how rural women can become financially independent and support their families with the right resources and determination.
Empowering Women Through Self-Reliance
Nageshwari’s journey from a homemaker to an entrepreneur showcases the potential of government schemes like Bihan and MGNREGA in empowering women to achieve financial independence. Her story is inspiring other women in her village to explore opportunities and take steps toward self-reliance.
With her hard work and dedication, Nageshwari Verma is truly an example of how rural entrepreneurship can lead to both economic growth and personal empowerment.
