New Delhi, November , 2024:External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar launched the website for the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) and addressed the conference, sharing a video of his speech on his social media account on X. During his address, Dr. Jaishankar emphasized that the Indian diaspora provides a strong foundation for India in addressing global challenges.
He announced that from January 8-10, 2025, he would co-host the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in collaboration with the Odisha government in Bhubaneswar. The video of his address is available on X (https://x.com/i/broadcasts/1MnxnDgDBoyGO).
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) has been celebrated annually on January 9 since 2003 to honor the contributions of the Indian diaspora to India’s development. This date was chosen in recognition of Mahatma Gandhi’s return from South Africa to India on January 9, 1915, where he later led the country’s independence movement and gave India a new direction.
