Earning a Net Income of Up to ₹2 Lakh Per Acre from Chili Cultivation

In a time when most young people pursue careers in jobs after completing their education, Eklavya Sahu, a resident of Dudhvara village in Magarlod block, Dhamtari, chose a different path. After completing his engineering degree in 2017-18, Eklavya turned to farming. With a keen interest in agricultural techniques, he began cultivating chili crops known for their high yield and profitability, even with low investment and minimal water usage.

A Journey from Engineering to Agriculture

Eklavya shares that his passion for farming led him to connect with the Horticulture Department, where he learned about various schemes under the National Agriculture Development Program. With their guidance, he explored subsidies for drip irrigation, pack houses, seed packing, and more. Using this support, he started cultivating chili on 12 acres of land.

Impressive Yields and Profits

  • Yield: Eklavya achieves a production of 100-110 quintals of chili per acre.
  • Income: From each acre, he earns a net profit of ₹2 lakh.

The chili produced by Eklavya finds an immediate market within the district but is also sent to neighboring districts for sale.

Acknowledging Government Support

Eklavya credits his success to government subsidies and the technical guidance provided by the Horticulture Department. He expressed his gratitude towards the administration for empowering young farmers like him to succeed in agriculture.

This inspiring story demonstrates how education combined with innovative farming techniques can lead to significant success in agriculture, creating a promising future for educated youth in rural areas.
