Bhopal: In a bid to revolutionize agriculture and water management in the state, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced an ambitious target to expand the state’s irrigated area to 10 million hectares by the year 2028-29. Chairing a meeting of the Narmada Valley Development Authority at Samatva Bhavan, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for timely completion of all construction and infrastructure projects. He urged officials to expedite progress while maintaining high standards of quality.


Focus on Omkareshwar Infrastructure for Singhast 2028

Acknowledging the spiritual significance of Singhast 2028, CM Dr. Yadav directed the construction of ghats on both banks of the Narmada River at Omkareshwar. With large numbers of pilgrims expected to visit during the festival, he stressed the importance of creating modern and safe facilities to accommodate the influx of devotees. The construction of ghats at Navaghat-Khedi in Khandwa district was also discussed, ensuring that Omkareshwar emerges as a well-prepared spiritual and cultural destination.


Review of Key Irrigation Projects

The meeting included an extensive review of the progress of several major irrigation and micro-irrigation projects, which are pivotal to achieving the irrigation expansion goals. Among the projects discussed were:

  • Baradev Joint Micro-Irrigation Project, including Teria Nala Dam and Saner Dam.
  • Sondwa Micro-Lift Irrigation Project.
  • Dhar Lift Micro-Irrigation Project.
  • Bahoriband Lift Micro-Irrigation Project.
  • Narmada-Jhabua-Petlawad-Thandla-Sardarpur Lift Micro-Irrigation Project.
  • Bargi Diversion Project, focusing on canal construction.
  • Maheshwar-Janapav Lift Micro-Irrigation Project.

Indira Sagar Omkareshwar Pumped Storage Project

The Chief Minister also reviewed the progress of the Indira Sagar Omkareshwar Pumped Storage Project, a critical initiative for sustainable water management and energy generation in the region.


Commitment to Timely Execution and Transparency

CM Dr. Mohan Yadav reiterated his government’s commitment to timely execution of all infrastructure projects. He highlighted the importance of irrigation in driving the state’s agricultural growth and assured that necessary resources and support would be provided to ensure project deadlines are met.


Officials Present at the Meeting

The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Deora, Chief Secretary Anurag Jain, Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Rajesh Rajoura, and officials from the Narmada Valley Development Authority, including Mohammad Suleman.

The Chief Minister concluded the meeting by emphasizing the state’s determination to create robust infrastructure, ensure efficient water management, and uplift the livelihoods of farmers across the region.
