Bemetara, December 1, 2024 The “Bihan” initiative is empowering women through self-help groups (SHGs) by providing financial resources and connecting them with sustainable livelihood opportunities. Guided by Collector Mr. Ranbir Sharma, the program is transforming lives in the Bemetara district. Chief Executive Officer of the District Panchayat, Mr. Tekchand Agrawal, recently inspected villages under the Navagad block to assess the impact of Bihan and the remarkable contributions of SHG members.

Inspiring Stories from Women Entrepreneurs

  • Narayanpur Panchayat:
    • Gayatri Devangan: Operates a grocery and fancy store as a member of the Om Sainath Group.
    • Rajkumari Sahu: Engaged in wire fencing production as part of the Tulsi Group.
  • Temri Panchayat:
    • Nandini Devakar: Cultivates vegetables, representing the Bhoomika Group.
    • Neera Sahu: Manages a dairy business as part of the Bhavani Group.
    • Panchwati Sahu: Runs a footwear and clothing shop with support from the Kaila Devi Group.
  • Ghursena Panchayat:
    • Renu Devangan: Operates a grocery store as a member of the Swastik Group.
    • Amita Baghel: Engaged in fish farming, associated with the Shraddha Group.
    • Sangeeta Sahu: Runs a tailoring and clothing store under the Om Sai Group.
  • Amora Panchayat:
    • Kunti Bai: Runs a small hotel, supported by the Vidya Group.
    • Vandana Bai: Operates a general and fancy store as part of the Anupa Group.
    • Mamta Bai: Manages a tailoring and clothing shop with the Amin Mata Group.

Focus on Sustainable Livelihoods

The inspections revealed that women, with the help of Bihan, have ventured into diverse activities, including grocery stores, tailoring, farming, and small-scale manufacturing. The initiative not only provides financial assistance but also equips women with the skills and resources needed for entrepreneurship.

  • Encouraging More Participation: Mr. Agrawal emphasized the importance of inspiring more women to join self-help groups and providing necessary financial support.
  • “Lakhpati Didi” Initiative: He expressed optimism about achieving the goals of the “Lakhpati Didi” scheme, ensuring the initiative becomes a milestone in women’s economic empowerment.
