A Bicycle Can Open the Door to Education

The distribution of bicycles to 42 girl students in Mohlai under the Saraswati Cycle Scheme is a meaningful step towards making education more accessible. For students who travel long distances to school, a bicycle can save time, reduce physical hardship and make regular attendance easier.

The value of such a scheme goes beyond providing transport. When girls can reach school safely and independently, their confidence grows and their families are more willing to support their continued education. Regular attendance also improves their chances of participating fully in classroom learning, sports and other activities.

The initiative is especially important in rural areas, where distance often becomes a reason for girls to miss school or discontinue their studies. A bicycle gives them greater mobility and helps remove one of the practical barriers standing between them and their educational goals.

The foundation stone laying for a stage in Mohlai and an additional laboratory room at the high school also reflects the need to improve the wider educational environment. Transport facilities must be supported by good classrooms, laboratories, teachers and learning resources. Only then can access to school lead to quality education.

Parents and teachers have an equally important role. Students need encouragement, regular guidance and a safe atmosphere in which to pursue their ambitions. Government schemes can provide opportunity, but families and schools must help students use that opportunity effectively.

The Saraswati Cycle Scheme is therefore more than a welfare measure. It is an investment in the independence, confidence and future of girls. Each bicycle that reaches a student can carry her closer to education, self reliance and a better life.
