This arrest follows an ongoing sedition case registered against him, according to reports shared on the Facebook page of Pundarik Dham, an ISKCON-affiliated organization.

Advocacy for Hindu Minority Rights

Chinmoy Krishna Das has been an outspoken advocate for Hindu minority rights in Bangladesh, calling for the establishment of:

  • A special tribunal for minority issues
  • Minority Protection Laws
  • A Ministry for Minority Affairs

His activism brought him into the spotlight after large rallies in Chittagong on October 25 and Rangpur on November 22, which highlighted the plight of Bangladesh’s Hindu community.

Sedition Case from Chittagong Rally

A sedition case was filed against Chinmoy Krishna Das and 18 others on October 30 at the Kotwali Police Station in Chittagong. The charges stem from allegations that he raised a saffron flag above the Bangladeshi national flag during a rally at Lal Dighi Maidan in Chittagong on October 25. This act was deemed disrespectful and led to accusations of undermining national symbols.

Arrest at Dhaka Airport

Chinmoy Krishna Das was reportedly en route to Chittagong when police intercepted him at Dhaka Airport. According to Gourang Das Brahmachari, a senior organizer of the Bangladesh Samriddhi Sanatani Jagaran Jot, Chinmoy’s arrest is directly tied to his recent advocacy efforts and growing prominence in minority rights activism.

This arrest highlights the ongoing challenges faced by minority leaders in Bangladesh, particularly those advocating for the protection and promotion of Hindu community rights in a predominantly Muslim-majority nation.
