A havan and puja in front of the Mahatma Gandhi monument will kick off the program at 7:30 am, and between 8:30 and 9:00 am, “Sengol” will be installed within the Lok Sabha.

According to sources on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new Parliament building on Sunday in two parts that would include puja, the installation of the “Sengol,” the showing of two short films, and the issuance of commemorative coin and stamp.

Twenty ‘aadeenams’ from Tamil Nadu, including Tiruvavaduthurai, Perur, and Madurai, have been invited to the opening of the new Parliament building on May 28, according to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The Sengol, sceptre used to represent the handover of authority from the British to the people of India in 1947, will also be installed in the new Parliament building.

Complete schedule for the New Parliament House’s inaugural ceremony

  • The programme will start at 7:30 am with puja (worship) in front of the Mahatma Gandhi monument and havan (ritualistic fire ceremony). Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman are among the dignitaries who will be present at this time.
  • Between 8:30 and 9:00 am, soon after the puja, Sengol will be installed inside the Lok Sabha.
  • A prayer meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m., attended by Shankaracharya, scholars, pundits, and saints. Adi Shiva and Adi Shankara may also be worshipped during this prayer meeting.
  • The second phase of the program will begin at 12 p.m. with the national anthem. This event will feature the screening of two short films.
  • The Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha will read out the President’s and Vice President’s messages. The Rajya Sabha Leader of the Opposition will address the gathering.
  • Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will also deliver a speech, and a commemorative coin and stamp will be unveiled during the event.
  • The program will wrap up with an address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, scheduled for approximately 2:30 pm.

Both Shaivite monastery and the head of such maths are referred to as “Aadeenam” in Tamil.

Sitharaman stated that the aadeenams were invited in recognition of Tamil Nadu’s contribution to the independence movement. According to SitharamanTamil Nadu has “big proud part” when the Sengol (sceptre) was handed over to the first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, symbolising the transfer of power from the British to the people of India, she said.

The decision to install the Sengol in the new Parliament was made based on the advice of the Tiruvavduthurai adheenam, following discussions between the late CR Rajagopalachary and the Shaivite pontiff, following consultations with Jawaharlal Nehru regarding the matter.

“The pontiffs will attend the event, there will be Oduvars (scholars in Shaivite scriptures and hymns) who will recite the Thevaram. In 1947 also, the Sengol was handed over to Nehru when Othuvargal recited Kolaru Pathigam,” she said.

About 20 opposition parties have expressed their disapproval of the Prime Minister’s choice for the inauguration of the new Parliament building, and they have said that they will boycott the event.

petition was also submitted to the Supreme Court asking for instructions to be given to the Lok Sabha secretariat in preparation for President Droupadi Murmu’s inauguration of the new Parliament building. The argument in the petition was that the Secretary General of Lok Sabha and the Lok Sabha secretariat lack the jurisdiction to open the new Parliament building; only the President has such authority.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance has called the opposition’s attitude a “direct disrespect to the democratic principles and constitutional values of our esteemed nation.”
