New Delhi, November 6, 2024 – Indian Railways has set an unprecedented milestone, transporting over three crore passengers in a single day, surpassing the combined population of Australia and New Zealand. On Monday, November 4, 2024, Indian Railways handled a record 120.72 lakh non-suburban passengers (19.43 lakh reserved and 101.29 lakh unreserved) and 180 lakh suburban travelers, marking the highest passenger movement of the year.
To accommodate the festive rush for Puja, Diwali, and Chhath celebrations, Indian Railways has introduced 7,666 special train services between October 1 and November 30, 2024, a significant 73% increase from the previous year’s 4,429 trips. From October 1 to November 5 alone, 4,521 special trains have already transported around 65 lakh passengers.
Key Highlights of Special Train Operations:
- Record Day (November 4, 2024): 203 special trains operated, serving a record three crore passengers.
- Festive Traffic Management: Indian Railways has scheduled 164 special trains for November 6 and November 7.
- Chhath Festival Plans: Starting from November 8, after the morning arghya rituals, a significant return crowd is anticipated. Railways has planned special trains and is prepared to deploy additional services based on real-time demand in key divisions like Samastipur and Danapur.

- November 9: 160 trains
- November 10: 161 trains
- November 11: 155 trains
