Ramnagar, July 6, 2026: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday inaugurated the 220.90 metre long pre stressed girder bridge built over Dhangarhi stream on National Highway 121, now re numbered as National Highway 309, and dedicated it to the public. The Rs 29.65 crore bridge is seen as a major connectivity asset on the Kashiपुर Ramनगर Marchula Buwakhal route, which links the Kumaon and Garhwal divisions.

The highway serves as a crucial corridor for daily movement, trade, tourism and emergency services, while also acting as a key entry point to the world famous Jim Corbett National Park. It connects districts including Nainital, Almora, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Champawat and Pauri Garhwal, making it one of the region’s most important lifelines. For years, rising water levels in Dhangarhi stream during the monsoon often disrupted traffic and created difficulties for residents, tourists and emergency vehicles.

Dhami said the bridge inauguration is not just the opening of an infrastructure project but the fulfilment of long standing expectations and struggles of local residents. He said the state government gave priority to the project and completed it in a time bound manner to provide a permanent solution to a recurring problem.

The chief minister said the Dhangarhi bridge is an important link for the whole of Uttarakhand and will make movement between Kumaon and Garhwal safer and smoother. He added that it will strengthen tourism, trade, the local economy and regional development.

Dhami said the government has completed five years of work based on service, good governance and development, with a focus on reaching the last person in line. He said the state is investing in modern roads, stronger bridges, rail networks, ropeways, health, education, tourism and the development of border regions.

He added that the state administration follows a working culture of simplification, solution, disposal and satisfaction, ensuring that projects are not only launched but also completed on time so that people benefit quickly. He noted that the nearby Panoud bridge, built at a cost of around Rs 18.43 crore, is also almost complete and already carrying traffic. Final asphalting will be finished soon before it is formally opened to the public.

Dhami also assured action on the problems faced by families living in forest settlements in the Ramnagar area. He said proposals for widening important roads including the Ramnagar Ranikhet motor road have already been sent to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and are under progress.

Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta said the Dhangarhi bridge will ensure safe and uninterrupted movement throughout the year. The chief minister also offered prayers at the Garjia Devi temple for peace, prosperity and happiness in Uttarakhand before walking across the newly built bridge and observing wildlife near the Corbett Tiger Reserve boundary.

Local legislators, district officials and a large number of residents were present at the event.
