BHOPAL, July 5: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Sunday paid tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his 125th birth anniversary, highlighting his role in India’s political history and calling upon party workers to carry forward his ideals of nationalism and national unity.

The commemorative district workers’ conference, held at the BJP state headquarters in Bhopal, was addressed by BJP National Co-Organisation General Secretary Shiv Prakash, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, and BJP State President Hemant Khandelwal.

Speaking at the event, Shiv Prakash described Dr. Mookerjee as a visionary leader who made significant contributions to preserving India’s unity in the years following Independence. He said Dr. Mookerjee’s sacrifice in support of the complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir remains an enduring source of inspiration. He also highlighted Dr. Mookerjee’s contributions to industrial policy, promotion of Indian languages, and educational reforms.

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said Dr. Mookerjee’s vision continues to guide the nation’s development and unity. Referring to the abrogation of Article 370, Yadav said the decision fulfilled Dr. Mookerjee’s long-standing objective of fully integrating Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country.

The Chief Minister also highlighted India’s economic and strategic progress, stating that the country now exports defence products to more than 90 countries. He said Madhya Pradesh has emerged as an attractive investment destination, adding that the state has received investment proposals worth ₹86,000 crore between January and June this year. He also announced that a major convention centre, modelled on Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, will be developed in Bhopal.

Addressing party workers, BJP State President Hemant Khandelwal said Dr. Mookerjee laid the ideological foundation of nationalist politics in independent India and envisioned a political organisation based on discipline, ideology, and public service rather than the pursuit of power. He said the BJP has grown into the world’s largest political party by adhering to these principles.

Khandelwal urged party workers to take Dr. Mookerjee’s message to every section of society and strengthen the party’s grassroots network. He described party booths as centres of nation-building and credited BJP workers for expanding the organisation through dedicated service.

The conference was part of the BJP’s statewide programme marking Dr. Mookerjee’s 125th birth anniversary. Similar events are being organised across all districts of Madhya Pradesh to commemorate the occasion.

Several ministers, legislators, senior party office-bearers, and local leaders were present at the event.
