Raipur, December 13, 2024: Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, Chhattisgarh has emerged as a state committed to not only the development of women but also their empowerment, equality, and social justice. With a dedicated focus on the holistic growth of women and children, the Chief Minister has entrusted the responsibility to Women and Child Development Minister Smt. Laxmi Rajwade, who is efficiently driving transformative initiatives across the state.
Mahatari Vandan Yojana: A Movement for Empowerment
The Mahatari Vandan Yojana has transformed the lives of millions of women in Chhattisgarh by providing financial assistance and fostering self-reliance. Between March and December 2024, ₹6,530.41 crore was directly transferred to the accounts of over 70 lakh women. This initiative is more than just financial aid; it is a movement recognizing women’s rights, boosting their confidence, and empowering them to make decisions within their households.
Infrastructure and Facilities for Working Mothers
To support working women, 201 Palna Kendras have been established across 31 districts. These centers ensure proper care for children while enabling mothers to work stress-free. In addition, the government has upgraded 4,750 Anganwadi centers, introducing facilities like LED TVs and Poshan Vatika to create a nurturing environment. Over the past 10 months, 530 Anganwadi workers have been appointed, and 4,900 mini Anganwadi centers have been converted into full-fledged ones.
To streamline operations, the state launched the Anganwadi Adhosanrachna Portal, which provides real-time updates on essential infrastructure like electricity, water supply, and sanitation.
Combating Malnutrition and Enhancing Health
Using the Poshan Tracker App, the government closely monitors the health of children aged 0-5 years, achieving a historic reduction in malnutrition rates. These efforts exemplify the state’s commitment to improving the quality of life for the most vulnerable sections of society.
Safety and Support Systems for Women and Children
To safeguard the rights of women and children, helplines such as Childline (1098) and Women Helpline (181) operate round the clock. Additionally, one-stop centers have been expanded in every district, offering a reliable safety net during crises.
Mission Shakti: A Step Towards Women’s Empowerment
The establishment of the State Women Empowerment Hub under the central government’s Mission Shakti ensures effective coordination and implementation of various schemes for women. The Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana now deposits ₹35,000 directly into the bride’s account, with the remaining ₹15,000 allocated for mass marriage events. This year alone, 6,543 marriages have been successfully conducted.
Initiatives for Tribal Communities
Under the PM Janman Yojana, a survey of 48,000 backward tribal families across 17 districts has been completed. As part of this initiative, 70 new Anganwadi centers have been established, 54 are under construction, and 95 more are approved for 2024-25. The Niyad Nellanar Yojana operates 132 Anganwadi centers in remote districts like Bijapur, Sukma, and Dantewada.
Campaign Against Child Marriage
On November 27, 2024, the government launched the Child Marriage-Free Chhattisgarh campaign, focusing on changing societal mindsets and raising awareness at the grassroots level. This initiative reflects a broader vision of creating a progressive and equitable society.
A Year of Good Governance
