All Projects to Be Completed Before Simhastha-2028
Devotees to Bathe in Shipra’s Pure Water During the Religious Fair

Bhopal, December 6, 2024, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announced that the revered Shipra River will be clean, flowing, and full of fresh water in time for the Simhastha-2028. Devotees, saints, and seers will perform their holy bath in Shipra’s water during the grand event. This will be made possible by the Kanha Diversion Closed Duct Project, the Sewarkhedi-Silarkhedi Medium Project, and the Hariyakhedi Project, which will function as an integrated system. These unique initiatives aim to achieve three objectives simultaneously—cleaning the river, ensuring uninterrupted flow, and supplying drinking water to Ujjain and nearby districts.

During a review meeting held in Ujjain, CM Yadav emphasized the importance of completing these projects by the stipulated timeline while maintaining the highest standards of quality. He described the initiative as the first of its kind in the country, with plans to present it as a model project to the central government.

Transformative Water Projects for Shipra’s Revival

These integrated projects have been designed with a vision to cater to the region’s needs until 2055. Here’s how each project contributes:

  1. Kanha Diversion Closed Duct Project
    • Objective: Divert untreated water from the Kanha River, process it, and release clean water into the Gambhir River downstream.
    • Infrastructure: Includes a 12-kilometer-long tunnel and an 18.15-kilometer closed duct to ensure effective water treatment and diversion.
  2. Sewarkhedi-Silarkhedi Project
    • Goal: Maintain a consistent water supply in Shipra through infrastructure like barrages and balancing tanks.
    • Mechanism: Water from Silarkhedi Tank will flow to the Triveni Ghat via pipelines, ensuring the river remains flowing and free from stagnation year-round.
  3. Hariyakhedi Project
    • Purpose: Provide clean upstream water for Shipra while meeting the district’s drinking water needs.
    • Infrastructure: Includes water treatment plants and barrages to ensure uninterrupted water availability for residents and devotees.

Impact of the Projects

  • Revitalizing Shipra: The projects aim to restore the river’s sanctity by making it clean, free-flowing, and pollution-free.
  • Sustainable Drinking Water Supply: These projects will secure a reliable source of drinking water for the region.
  • Infrastructure Strengthening: By integrating modern engineering techniques, these projects set a benchmark for water conservation and management.

Progress and Timeline

Collector Neeraj Kumar Singh provided updates during the review meeting:

  • Closed Duct System: A 30.15-kilometer network is under construction to separate polluted water from the Kanha River.
  • Barrage and Tank Development: The Sewarkhedi-Silarkhedi Project will ensure water availability through gravity pipelines, eliminating the need for pumps.
  • Water Treatment Plants: Advanced facilities at Hariyakhedi will guarantee a consistent supply of potable water while preserving Shipra’s purity.

The CM urged all officials to ensure timely and efficient execution of these projects, stressing the importance of their completion ahead of Simhastha-2028.

Simhastha-2028: A Vision of Holiness and Sustainability

Dr. Yadav reiterated the state’s commitment to enhancing the spiritual and environmental experience for Simhastha pilgrims. The projects will make Shipra a symbol of both devotion and sustainability, ensuring that future generations can experience its divine essence.

“Shipra’s rejuvenation will not only enhance the spiritual significance of Simhastha but also set an example for water resource management nationwide,” the CM said.

Tribute to Late Annapurna Devi Yadav

In addition to the meeting, CM Yadav paid respects to his late aunt, Annapurna Devi Yadav, who passed away earlier in the day. He visited the family residence in Geeta Colony, offering floral tributes to the departed soul and extending his condolences to the grieving family.

With these ambitious projects and initiatives, Ujjain is gearing up for a sustainable and spiritually fulfilling Simhastha-2028.
