Bastar Olympics: A Platform for Aspiring Athletes with Passion and Dedication

Kondagaon, December 6, 2024 In a spirited initiative led by Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, the Bastar Olympics have emerged as a significant platform to nurture and showcase the sports talent of youth from the Bastar division. This event is providing young athletes with an opportunity to not only demonstrate their abilities but also advance their careers in the field of sports.

Following the grand success of district-level competitions held from November 20 to 24, where over 2,000 players participated with enthusiasm, the winners are now preparing to represent their districts at the divisional level. A total of 368 players from Kondagaon district are set to compete in various sports with high hopes and renewed energy.

Kondagaon Volleyball Players: Ready for the Challenge

Among the standout performers are the volleyball players from Kondagaon block, particularly the team from Golawand village, which delivered an exceptional performance during the district-level events. The team, composed entirely of players from the same village, displayed remarkable teamwork and skill to secure victory. Their passion for volleyball and the support from their community have motivated them to aim for excellence at the divisional-level Bastar Olympics.

Golawand’s Rising Stars in Volleyball

The volleyball team from Golawand is gaining recognition for its dedication and talent. The young players aspire to make their village and state proud with their performances. Team captain Alekh Korram, a 10th-grade student, shared that he has been participating in school-level sports since 9th grade. With a family deeply rooted in sports—his father, a former district-level player, and his mother and elder brother also being athletes—Alekh grew up in an environment that nurtured his love for volleyball. Competing in the Bastar Olympics for the first time, Alekh is optimistic about his team’s performance at the divisional level.

Other team members, like Vishal Korram, a 10th grader, and Jashwant Korram, an 11th grader, echoed similar sentiments. They expressed their gratitude for the opportunity provided by the Bastar Olympics, which has become a stepping stone for young athletes like them to showcase their skills. The team also includes Yushant Sethia, Yashwant Sethia, and Abhijit Korram, among others, all of whom are determined to leave a mark at the divisional event.

Reviving Traditional Sports and Empowering Youth at the Bastar Olympics

For years, the Bastar region faced developmental hurdles due to the influence of extremism. However, initiatives like the Bastar Olympics have redirected the youth towards constructive pursuits, particularly sports. These games are not only uncovering hidden talent but also instilling a sense of pride and purpose among the youth.

The event has rekindled interest in traditional sports while simultaneously shaping the future of young athletes. Many participants see the Bastar Olympics as a springboard for greater opportunities, such as joining the armed forces or representing the state at national levels.
