In a significant step towards empowering farmers and promoting sericulture, the Chhattisgarh government facilitated a study tour for 100 sericulture farmers to Wardha, Maharashtra. The farmers underwent intensive training on advanced techniques in sericulture, focusing on soil management, plant care, equipment usage, irrigation systems, and other technical aspects essential for successful silkworm farming.

Under this scheme, sericulture farmers can earn between ₹66,000 to ₹1 lakh in just 26 days by adopting advanced techniques. The farmers’ visit provided insights into best practices for rearing silkworms, handling market demands, and improving overall productivity.

Key Discussions and Insights Gained

During the training program, farmers interacted with experts and progressive sericulture practitioners in Wardha. They discussed:

  • Precautions and Scientific Measures: Guidelines for maintaining healthy silkworms and ensuring optimal production.
  • Market Strategies: Insights into selling cocoons at competitive prices and navigating the payment process.
  • Role of Women: Encouraging women’s participation in sericulture as a sustainable income source for families.

A Transformative Opportunity for Chhattisgarh’s Farmers

The farmers returned with a renewed sense of purpose and enthusiasm to implement the knowledge acquired during the study tour. By integrating these advanced techniques, they aim to produce high-quality silk cocoons and contribute to making Chhattisgarh a hub for sericulture.
