Lucknow, December 6, 2024: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on the occasion of Mahaparinirvan Diwas, paid heartfelt tributes to Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, recognizing him as a global voice for justice, equality, and social reform. Addressing a solemn gathering at the Ambedkar Mahasabha campus, the CM celebrated the towering legacy of Dr. Ambedkar, often referred to as the architect of the Indian Constitution, who tirelessly worked for the upliftment of the marginalized and downtrodden.

Speaking at the event, CM Yogi stated, “Dr. Ambedkar gave a new vision to millions of oppressed and deprived individuals across the globe. He dismantled regressive practices and restored dignity to those denied basic human rights. Today, as we remember him, his principles inspire every major movement toward nation-building and social justice.”

Tributes to a Visionary

At the Mahasabha campus, CM Adityanath paid floral tributes to Dr. Ambedkar’s Asthi Kalash (urn) and garlanded the statue of Lord Buddha. Reflecting on Dr. Ambedkar’s struggles, he remarked on how the social reformer defied immense odds to establish equality and justice for all. “Despite facing discrimination and suffering, Baba Saheb dedicated his life to securing the rights of the marginalized. His efforts succeeded in ensuring justice for oppressed communities, leaving behind a legacy that continues to guide us today,” he said.

Raising Global Concerns: Religious Persecution in Bangladesh

The Chief Minister expressed deep concern over ongoing violence against minorities in Bangladesh, attributing it to the lingering consequences of the 1947 Partition. He revealed that minorities, especially Hindus and Buddhists, have faced systemic oppression in Bangladesh, with their population dropping alarmingly from 22% in 1971 to just 6-7% today.

He urged activists and leaders to speak up for these victims, noting that many political entities exploit marginalized groups for electoral gains but remain silent on international issues like the persecution of Dalits and Hindus. “Baba Saheb foresaw these challenges during the Partition and warned about the grim consequences. His vision continues to guide us in addressing such injustices,” he remarked.

Empowering Marginalized Communities in UP

Reiterating his government’s commitment to Dr. Ambedkar’s ideals, CM Yogi highlighted the state government’s pro-poor policies, aimed at achieving zero poverty and social equality. He emphasized schemes providing affordable housing, toilets, Ayushman Bharat health cards, land rights, pensions, and scholarships as pivotal to reducing inequality. “The government is ensuring that every household benefits from these initiatives, creating opportunities and fulfilling Dr. Ambedkar’s dream of an inclusive society,” he said.

The CM also announced plans for the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial and Cultural Center in Lucknow, which will feature a grand memorial, a library, an auditorium, a hostel, and a guesthouse. This center will preserve and showcase Dr. Ambedkar’s contributions, including a replica of the original Constitution, enabling citizens to connect with his vision of equality and justice.

Honoring Dr. Ambedkar’s Panchteerth

Recognizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts in commemorating Dr. Ambedkar, CM Yogi credited him with establishing the Panchteerth, five significant sites related to the life of Dr. Ambedkar. He also criticized the imposition of unnecessary amendments to the Constitution during the Emergency in 1975, terming it an insult to Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy and the framers of the Constitution.

Expressing optimism, the CM concluded, “Under the visionary leadership of PM Modi, we are marching towards a developed and inclusive India. The government is committed to empowering every marginalized citizen and fulfilling Baba Saheb’s dream of a prosperous and just nation.”

The ceremony witnessed participation from Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak, Social Welfare Minister Asim Arun, SC/ST Commission Chairperson Baijnath Rawat, Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, and other dignitaries. Earlier in the day, CM Yogi also paid floral tributes to Dr. Ambedkar’s statue in Hazratganj, Lucknow.
