Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has positioned Ujjain as the epicenter of Madhya Pradesh’s resurgence, declaring that exemplary Simhastha 2028 management will amplify the state’s global prestige. On Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay’s death anniversary, he led the groundbreaking for the transformative Rs 1,133.67 crore Hariyakhedi Water Augmentation Project in Hariyakhedi village. This cornerstone initiative guarantees pure drinking water for devotees, residents, and an anticipated influx of millions during the 2028 Kumbh, while ensuring long term household supply across Ujjain.

Engineered for scale, the project deploys a robust 708 km pipeline network, new intake wells at Hariyakhedi and Gambhir rivers, advanced water treatment plants, and 17 elevated storage tanks. It will deliver 49,087 fresh household connections, replacing outdated ACP pipes with modern infrastructure. Key sources, Silar Khedi, Gambhir, Undasa, and Sahib Khedi, promise uninterrupted flow, even during peak royal baths expecting 2.28 crore visitors daily. Encompassing Ujjain’s 9.65 lakh base population, 21.83 lakh in the fairground, and 20 nearby villages, completion is slated within 24 months, blending urgency with precision.

This is no isolated effort. CM Yadav inaugurated and laid foundations for 11 development projects worth Rs 47.23 crore, from roads to public facilities, alongside launching Project Sanvardhan to fortify maternal and infant health, a nod to Antyodaya’s focus on the vulnerable. Symbolic gestures abounded: honoring meritorious students, distributing kits to sanitation workers, and announcing the Dhanvantari Institute for Ayurveda in Ujjain. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon unveil major Ayurveda education and healthcare advancements, revitalizing ancient wisdom for modern needs.

Under Modi’s stewardship, Ujjain has evolved dramatically. The majestic Mahakal Lok Corridor has crowned it a global spiritual tourism hub, drawing souls to the moksha granting Shipra River. Yadav reaffirmed commitments like alcohol prohibition at Krishna heritage sites such as Ujjain and Orchha, setting ethical benchmarks. Economic momentum builds through employment focused industries; a forthcoming ready made garment unit near Ujjain will empower women with jobs. Cultural amplification via All India Radio Ujjain broadcasts Mahakal darshans and Simhastha updates, spotlighting local youth talent.

Infrastructure milestones cascade: Ram Ghat bridges (one small, one grand) for seamless pilgrim access; Geeta Bhawan’s grand March inauguration; Ujjain Indore four lane highway groundbreaking; and metro connectivity, cementing Ujjain’s metropolitan aspirations. As the city of Mahakal and Emperor Vikramaditya prepares to host the world, these strides ensure 5 crore bathers at Shipra ghats experience divinity unmarred by logistical woes.

Rooted in Upadhyay’s vision, Yadav’s governance prioritizes the last first: pucca homes for the poor, youth skilling for jobs, and Ladli Behna’s Rs 1,500 monthly lifeline. Local leaders like MLA Anil Jain Kaluheda praise the resolve, noting comprehensive upgrades in roads, sewers, and water alongside welfare schemes. Attendees, including former minister Paras Jain, Mayor Mukesh Tatwal, and civic chief Kalawati Yadav, witnessed a program pulsing with optimism.

This Ujjain blueprint transcends events; it is a model for sustainable pilgrimage economies. Water security averts crises like past shortages, health projects cut maternal mortality, and tourism jobs stem rural exodus. Economically, Simhastha could inject billions, spurring MSMEs, hospitality, and crafts. Spiritually, it revives Kumbh’s egalitarian ethos amid modern infrastructure.

Madhya Pradesh leads by fusing heritage with progress, other states must follow for their Kumbh’s and festivals. Policymakers nationwide: prioritize water, health, and inclusion to turn faith gatherings into force multipliers for development. Under Yadav and Modi, Ujjain rises not just as a holy city, but as a beacon of integrated growth.
