State Government Declares the Film Tax-Free; Showcased at Lake View Ashoka Open Theatre

Bhopal, November 20, 2024 – Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav praised the film “The Sabarmati Report” for its honest portrayal of one of India’s most contentious historical events. Highlighting the tragic Godhra incident of 2002, the film delves into the truths surrounding the horrific event, specifically the loss of 59 karsevaks. Dr. Yadav commended the film for documenting the sacrifices of those who were misunderstood during that turbulent period.

Speaking after a special screening at the Lake View Ashoka Open Theatre, Dr. Yadav announced that the Madhya Pradesh government has made the film tax-free to ensure it reaches a wider audience.


Madhya Pradesh: An Emerging Hub for Film Production

Dr. Yadav emphasized the state’s growing potential as a premier destination for filmmaking. “Madhya Pradesh is rich in scenic and culturally significant locations like Bhopal, Khajuraho, and Pachmarhi. Our policies are designed to encourage the film industry to explore the state’s vast cinematic potential,” he said.

Film producer Mr. Anshul Mohan expressed gratitude for the state government’s unwavering support and its decision to waive taxes on the film.

Actor Vikrant Massey, who plays the lead role in the film, stressed the importance of passing on historical truths to the younger generation. Actress Rashi Khanna added, “Madhya Pradesh is fast emerging as a major hub for filmmaking, second only to Mumbai.” She applauded the state’s conducive policies and picturesque landscapes that have attracted filmmakers from across the country.


A Tribute to Historical Accuracy

The Sabarmati Report, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ms. Ekta Kapoor, revisits the dark pages of history and unravels the truths of a 22-year-old incident. The film aims to educate audiences on the complexities of the past while paying homage to the lives lost.

Prominent leaders, including MP V.D. Sharma, lauded the Chief Minister’s efforts in supporting the film. The screening was attended by several state ministers, MPs, MLAs, and enthusiastic members of the public, further demonstrating the film’s importance in sparking dialogue and reflection.

Madhya Pradesh continues to solidify its position as a vital center for the Indian film industry, with its rich history and scenic locales serving as an inspiration for filmmakers.
