A Success Story: Mahatari Vandan Yojana
Mahasamund, December 3, 2024

The Mahatari Vandan Yojana, known for uplifting the lives of underprivileged women, is now also transforming relationships. Often, the bond between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law is perceived as contentious, but in Mahasamund’s Bemcha village, this scheme has brought sweetness to their relationship.

A Tale of Harmony: Shailendri Dhruv and Her Daughter-in-Law Ges Kumari

In a modest household under one roof, Shailendri Dhruv and her daughter-in-law Ges Kumari share a harmonious life. Ges Kumari, who has been living with her in-laws for the past three years, is expecting a new addition to the family, filling the home with double the joy.

For this financially constrained family, the ₹2,000 monthly support from the Mahatari Vandan Yojana has become a lifeline. This amount not only helps with daily expenses but also covers minor healthcare needs.

While Shailendri and Ges Kumari have always shared a loving bond, the scheme’s financial assistance has further strengthened their relationship. Shailendri treats her daughter-in-law like her own daughter, ensuring her well-being during this important phase of life.

Financial Relief in Times of Joy and Need

Shailendri shared, “The Mahatari Vandan Yojana started just as we received the joyous news of a new family member on the way. The monthly assistance ensures that we can provide proper nutrition, regular check-ups, and overall care for Ges Kumari without additional financial stress.”

Her husband and son work as farmers and laborers to sustain the household, but the added income from the scheme has been invaluable. According to Shailendri, “Only those who experience such financial challenges can truly understand how much this support means.” She thanked the Chief Minister, Vishnudev Sai, for introducing this transformative scheme, emphasizing that it not only provides financial stability but also fosters stronger familial relationships.

About Mahatari Vandan Yojana

The Mahatari Vandan Yojana offers ₹12,000 annually to married women in need, disbursed in monthly installments of ₹1,000 directly into their bank accounts. In Mahasamund district alone, over 3.26 lakh women are beneficiaries of the scheme, with 10 installments already disbursed by the government.

Beyond Financial Assistance

This initiative has proven to be more than just monetary aid. It has strengthened the social fabric by alleviating financial burdens and nurturing relationships within families. In Shailendri and Ges Kumari’s case, it has also contributed to a nurturing environment for the upcoming new member of the family.

A Step Towards Holistic Well-Being

The Mahatari Vandan Yojana is a shining example of how government policies can address economic challenges while fostering emotional and social harmony. Women like Shailendri and Ges Kumari are living proof of how such initiatives can transform lives, strengthen relationships, and create a brighter future for families.
