Girjapur, Koriya – November 25, 2024 For Shanti Bai, a resident of Girjapur village in Koriya district, owning a permanent house was once an unachievable dream. However, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) has transformed her life, granting her the stability and joy she long desired.

Shanti Bai, the widow of the late Dharmapal, has endured a life of hardships, raising her two children and supporting an eight-member family through agriculture. Living in a kutcha (temporary) house for years, she always yearned for a pucca (permanent) home, but limited financial resources kept her dream out of reach.

A Ray of Hope: PMAY Grants for Housing

In 2024, PMAY-Gramin brought hope to Shanti Bai’s life. Through the scheme, she received financial assistance for constructing her house, enabling her to realize her dream. Using the funds judiciously, Shanti Bai quickly completed the construction of her permanent home.

A Memorable Griha Pravesh Ceremony

The housewarming ceremony marked a turning point in Shanti Bai’s life. In the presence of Alexander Panna, CEO of Janpad Panchayat Baikunthpur, the village sarpanch, and fellow villagers, Shanti Bai received the keys to her new home. Overwhelmed with gratitude and joy, she performed a traditional Griha Pravesh ritual with a lit diya, kumkum, rice grains, and a coconut, symbolizing a fresh start in her life.

Expressing her heartfelt gratitude, Shanti Bai said, “The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has given people like me a new lease on life. My new house provides me with social security and dignity. Now, my family and I can live in peace and comfort.”

Shanti Bai’s story is a testament to the transformative power of the PMAY scheme, which not only provides a permanent roof over the heads of the needy but also restores their dignity and self-respect. Today, her family resides in their pucca home, a manifestation of her hard work, perseverance, and the government’s support.
