Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari Urges Election Commission to Transfer Sheopur Collector Over Election Fairness Concerns.
Bhopal, November 9, 2024: Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee President Jitu Patwari has submitted a complaint to the Chief Election Commissioner in New Delhi, demanding the immediate transfer of Sheopur District Collector Kishore Kanniyal. Patwari alleges that Kanniyal’s recent placement in Sheopur just four days prior to the election announcement was orchestrated by BJP candidate and current State Forest Minister Ramnivas Rawat to sway the electoral environment in Vijaypur constituency.
Patwari highlighted that BJP announced Rawat as its candidate for the Vijaypur by-election scheduled for November 13, 2024, and that Rawat has continued to function as Forest Minister despite contesting this election. According to Patwari, Kanniyal, an IAS officer reporting to Rawat, was posted in Sheopur on October 10, just days before the by-election announcement on October 15. Patwari argued that this move undermines democratic norms and gives undue advantage to the BJP candidate by allowing Rawat to use the administrative machinery in his favor.
Patwari claims that the District Collector’s actions, including appointing Booth Level Officers (BLOs) with familial ties to BJP supporters, suggest a bias toward BJP’s candidate, jeopardizing a free and fair election process.
In his complaint, Patwari urged that immediate action be taken to transfer Collector Kishore Kanniyal to ensure that the Vijaypur by-election is conducted impartially and without influence, allowing voters to exercise their choice freely on November 13.
