Raipur, November 25, 2024 Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai has emphasized that the “double-engine government” is propelling the rapid development of rail infrastructure in Chhattisgarh. During his train journey from Raipur to Bilaspur, he reiterated his commitment to advancing the state’s rail connectivity as a means of economic progress.


Modernization of Indian Railways

Highlighting the transformative changes in the railway sector over the past decade, CM Sai noted:

  • Passenger Amenities: High-speed trains like Vande Bharat, Tejas, and Gatimaan have significantly reduced travel time while providing features like air-conditioned coaches, Wi-Fi, and onboard catering services.
  • Digitization: E-ticketing and digital payment systems have simplified the booking process.
  • Sustainability: Initiatives such as solar energy and bio-toilets reflect environmental stewardship.
  • Technological Upgrades: The Indian Railways is adopting cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, data analytics, and automation to improve efficiency and service quality.

Major Rail Projects in Chhattisgarh

CM Sai outlined the ambitious railway projects underway, aimed at boosting connectivity, trade, and employment:

  1. Dongargarh-Kawardha-Katghora Rail Line
    • Length: 295 km
    • Estimated Cost: ₹4,021 crore
    • Status: Approved by the Railway Ministry, with ₹300 crore allocated for land acquisition and initial construction.
    • Benefits: Enhanced passenger facilities, improved mineral transportation, and job creation.
  2. Korba-Ambikapur New Rail Line
    • Length: 180 km
    • Funds Allocated for Survey & DPR: ₹16.75 crore
    • Impact: Accelerates development in the Surguja region.
  3. Gadchiroli-Bijapur-Bacheli Rail Line
    • Length: 490 km
    • Survey Budget: ₹12.25 crore
    • Purpose: Connects remote areas to better education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
  4. Sardega-Bhalumuda Double Line
    • Length: 37 km
    • Cost: ₹1,360 crore
    • Benefits: Strengthens connectivity between Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

Additionally, other proposed projects include:

  • Ambikapur-Barwadih
  • Kharsia-Naya Raipur-Parmalaksa
  • Rowghat-Jagdalpur
  • Dharamjaigarh-Pathalgaon-Lohardaga

The Dharamjaigarh-Lohardaga survey is nearing completion.


Strengthening Industrial and Regional Growth

These rail projects are expected to not only improve passenger connectivity but also facilitate the transportation of industrial and mineral resources. Smaller rail lines and multi-tracking projects are also in the pipeline to enhance regional development and supply chain efficiency.


Commitment to Passenger Convenience

CM Sai expressed his intent to work closely with the central government to improve passenger amenities and address challenges faced by travelers. He stated, “This journey has been a valuable learning experience, and we will take necessary steps to enhance rail transport facilities in Chhattisgarh for the benefit of its citizens.”

The Chief Minister concluded by reaffirming his vision for leveraging rail transportation to unlock the economic potential of Chhattisgarh and propel the state towards unprecedented growth.
