Chief Minister Dr. Yadav Directs Urban Bodies to Provide Additional Support to Street Vendors
Bhopal: Monday, November 4, 2024, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has instructed departmental officials to ensure that urban street vendors receive loans tailored to their needs, thereby providing them with working capital. Madhya Pradesh has consistently excelled in the PM SVANidhi Scheme, holding the first position nationwide for three years. The scheme empowers street vendors, handcart operators, and small traders in urban areas with loans of ₹10,000, ₹20,000, and ₹50,000, boosting their economic resilience. The scheme is implemented in the state by the Urban Development and Housing Department.
**Outstanding Performance Over Three Years**
Dr. Yadav highlighted that Madhya Pradesh has maintained its top position in the PM SVANidhi Scheme, benefiting 12.3 lakh vendors with loans amounting to approximately ₹1,769.16 crore over three years. Currently, 4.89 lakh street vendors in the state are actively using digital payment methods, earning cashback incentives totaling ₹21 crore. To promote digital transactions, beneficiaries are being trained in select areas. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the state government provided a one-time grant of ₹1,000 to registered street vendors in the unorganized sector. Additionally, continuous support is being offered by urban bodies to facilitate banking processes for these vendors.
**Linking Beneficiaries to Other Welfare Schemes**
Dr. Yadav also mentioned that over 16.17 lakh street vendors have been linked to multiple welfare initiatives, including the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, and the Building and Other Construction Workers Act. Furthermore, they have access to the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana and the National Food Security Act’s One Nation-One Ration Card facility. Beneficiaries are also being enrolled in the Janani Suraksha Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana. The PM SVANidhi Scheme is being successfully implemented across 413 urban bodies in the state.
